Thanks for a great Arts in the Park!

On August 21st, the Children's Art Centre hosted its 8th annual Arts in the Park, a free multicultural arts festival in Titus Sparrow Park. This year's event was another great success, with hundreds of children and families enjoying a variety of free arts activities and performances. The Children's Art Centre would like to send a huge thank you to our partners in this year's event for their generous contributions: Boston Center for the Arts, the Boston Public Library, Historic New England, The Museum of Fine Arts, Medicine Wheel Productions, Puppet Showplace Theater, Martin Case of Love & Light, Foodie's and Whole Foods. We'll see you next year!

Fall Programming Preview

The Children's Art Centre is gearing up for an exciting lineup of Fall programming. Our unique variety of workshops and classes are designed for children as young as 10 months up to 15 years. Read below to learn more about what the Art Centre has to offer your family!

Mama & Me Classes

Mama & Me has created a unique partnership with United South End Settlements (USES) in order to help bring its programming to the South End. As part of our collaboration, Mama & Me has made an ongoing commitment in helping serve the Lower Roxbury/South End community and the work USES does by donating a percentage of all proceeds from classes held at USES.

 Paint Playground (18 months-4 years)

In this class we will paint... Our hands, our feet, with marbles, on large canvases, on a wooden playhouse, in activity tables, with our fingers, paintbrushes, noodles, corn cobs and more! Sound crazy? It will be! We will create a colorful playground where children can paint until their hearts desire! Parents and children should come prepared to get messy in this hands-on painting experience!

Paint & Play (10-18 months)

Looking for a fun way to introduce your 10-18 month old to art-making and have them socialize with other children? This class is designed to give your child hands-on opportunities to get messy and explore art materials in a safe environment...outside of your home! Focus will also be on educating parents on the best ways to support your child's emerging creativity, developmental stages of art, and advice for art-making in your home. In this class children explore various non-toxic, child-safe art materials in the art studio ending with water table play. T-shirt smocks and washcloths will be provided.

Art Sampler & Holiday Art ( 10-18 months, 18 months-4 years)

Interested in exploring art with your child? In this class children will be introduced to a variety of artistic mediums including tempera, watercolor, printmaking, clay, sculpture, and homemade art materials. Each week children will have the opportunity to engage in multiple stations for art-making and sensory based exploration. Using the materials and methods learned in class, the last 4 weeks we will focus on creating unique, take-home projects, perfect gifts for the holidays!

Drop off your K1-1st grader to explore the world of art while participating in a variety of engaging visual arts, creative movement, and dramatic play activities designed to supplement classroom learning. Built around the idea of storytelling as a powerful and engaging means of enhancing language development in young children, participants have the opportunity to build their own narratives, collaborate with their peers, read stories in a new way, and travel to distant lands. Children will be encouraged to build their self-confidence, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. Each session will conclude with a field trip, art gallery, exhibition, and personal portfolio full of original artwork.

This unique new program will run 3 days a week beginning October 15th. Click HERE to learn more and register!
