Get Ready for Arts in the Park!

Arts in the Park, an annual multicultural arts festival for children and families presented by United South End Settlements, is just around the corner! Join us on AUGUST 21st from 10am-1pm in TITUS SPARROW PARK in the South End for a morning full of FREE art activities, performances by Martin Case and Puppet Showplace Theater, free sno-cones and snacks, and more! Arts in the Park is the "grand finale" of Sparrow Park's summer concert series for children, and is a great opportunity for the Children's Art Centre to showcase our many community partners while providing a day of quality, accessible arts programming for our entire community to enjoy. We hope to see you there! Special thanks to our partners and sponsors: Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Centre for the Arts, Mama & Me, My Gym, Historic New England, Boston Public Library, Medicine Wheel Productions, Foodies, Whole Foods, Boston Courant, and Pricewaterhouse Coopers.

Summer Arts Notebook

We simply can not believe that summer is half over. Our Summer Arts Program has breezed by in a wonderful whirlwind of paint and portfolios, field trips and exploration, collaboration and creative learning. Below is a short summary of our summer thus far. Limited slots are available in this unique and engaging program for children 4.5-12. Contact the Children's Art Centre for more information and to register!

Puppet making out of recycled materials!
The Calder Kids' Job Chart encourages collaboration and shared responsibility.
Sharing a moment "backstage" during a Stories & Stage session, a dramatic play and storytelling curriculum.

In yoga class with Ms. Karen, we strengthen our gross motor muscles as we tell stories with our bodies.
Meeting the sculptures outside of Stonybrook Fine Arts, where we created plaster cast reliefs and saw a metal welding demonstration.
Making African-inspired masks in the galleries at the MFA!
Exploring mark making and pattern (as well as force and motion!) as we create walls for our houses.

CAC in the Community:  Sculpture in the Park  sculpture

This fall, the Boston Art Commission and Boston Parks and Recreation are commissioning site-specific sculpture installations in Franklin Square Park, located on Washington Street in the South End. The goal of the artwork is to engage the public in considering the relationship between art and the environment. The artwork will be on display from September 15th - 30th in celebration of South End Open Studios. The Children's Art Centre is thrilled to be able to exhibit our youth's work alongside professional artists as part of Sculpture in the Park. Come down to Franklin Square and take a look!
