Have a Birthday Filled with Creativity and Fun with Party Packages at the Children's Art Centre!     

As part of a partnership with Blackstone Elementary School, the Children's Art Centre (CAC) recently implemented its Stories and Stage: Enhancing Language Acquisition through the Arts program in a Sheltered English Immersion Kindergarten classroom at the school. 23 students, with differing levels of English proficiency, and their teacher have been participating in the program, which links directly with the classroom curriculum. Taught by CAC staff and Early Childhood educator Helen Schroeder, Stories and Stage is designed to encourage development of oral language and vocabulary skills through collaborative storytelling, visual sequencing, dance and movement, drama, and theater activities. Through close collaboration with the classroom teacher, the curriculum is also presented as a resource that can be adapted to further integrate arts methods into the classroom after the residency ends. At the end of the program, a family presentation will give parents and guardians an opportunity to share in their children's learning. The Children's Art Centre is excited to continue our work with the Blackstone Elementary School in the future, working to increase knowledge of and access to arts-based learning throughout the South End and Lower Roxbury community.
