Urban League of Greater New Orleans Parent Information Center and Partners to host School Expo
|
The School Expo, a signature program of the Urban League's Parent Information Center (PIC) will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the University of New Orleans, Lindy Boggs Conference Center from 10 am - 2pm. The School Expo seeks to increase parent's awareness about school choice and familiarize them with the common application process (the application tool used to make school registration seamless). The event provides parents and students the opportunity to speak with school leaders as they explore exciting and innovative k-12 programs including schools with small class size, before and after school care, transportation, summer programs, tutorial programs, technology programs and more. Most importantly, the School Expo provides parents an opportunity to submit their Common Application timely and obtain information on over 80 elementary, middle and senior high schools all in one location. In creating this unique opportunity for parents to interface with multiple school leaders at one time, we also strive to create an entertaining day of fun for the entire family. Food and drinks will be provided along with activities for kids such as rock climbing and face painting. Families will receive uniform vouchers (valued at $25) and backpacks with school supplies. We've partnered with schools and community resource/service providers to ensure the day is filled with all the information parents will need to give their children a head start on the upcoming school year! "The School Expo empowers parents with the information they need in a fun and supportive environment. Parents are encouraged to attend and learn more about the schools and which options are the best fit for their family," - Nolan Rollins, President & CEO, Urban League of Greater New Orleans. Co-sponsoring organizations include Chevron, African American Women of Purpose and Power (AAWPP), New Orleans Kids Partnership, Connect2Educate, Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff's Office, University of New Orleans, Recovery School District, Coca-Cola, Playworks, Communities in Schools and City Year. If you would like to receive a reminder about the school expo, text the word SCHOOL EXPO to 313131 to register for the alert.
