NEW ORLEANS, LA. - The Urban League of Greater New Orleans' Women's Business Resource Center (WBRC) presents "Beauty in Business" Fashion Showcase, Sunday, February 28th, from 6 pm until 9 pm at Peaches Record Store located at 408 North Peters Street. The public is invited to enjoy this free event, and are encouraged to shop the many products that will be available by clients of the Center. The Fashion Showcase integrates the combined talents, skills and services of all WBRC clients creating an innovative approach to business marketing. The Fashion Showcase evolved from the WBRC Missing Link Marketplace, which is a more traditional expo hosted quarterly by the WBRC to provide a recurring opportunity for clients to gain business exposure. There are over thirty clients participating in the event which include hairstylists and barbers such as TamikaFalls, Father's and Son's and McCoy's Beauty and Barber Shop. Participating Make-up artists include Wink, Lexie Bloom and MB Makeup Artistry who will provide tips and advice to attendees including eyelash application. Fashions highlighted are from local boutiques Total Woman, Divine Unlimited and The Runway, to name a few. The WBRC has also partnered with Shirani Rea, owner and operator of Peaches Records, who knows first-hand the trials and tribulations of small business ownership. Opening in 1975, Peaches Records had been a fixture in New Orleans' Gentilly community until suffering devastating loss due to Hurricane Katrina. Rea, determined to re-open in New Orleans, sought the old Tower Records location as its new home. Peaches Records provided the perfect venue for clients to come together and combine resources to produce a successful and enjoyable event. The guest emcee is Eddie Francis of Q-93, who will serve as Master of Ceremonies. The showcase promises to be an exciting evening of entertainment and will feature great food, spoken word, musical performances by local rap group First Class, R & B artist The Caren Green Movement and more. The event will benefit the local Dress for Success Program where participants will receive a new hairstyle and makeover. "Dress for Success provides clothing items for females with limited resources, who need to improve their image and skills to gain employment," says Director Hope Encalade. "We are proud to show our clients to the city. This is another important event sure to promote the importance of supporting small business development, said Urban League President Nolan Rollins. A part of our mission is to benefit both the community and the clients, and what better way to do that than by supporting them through events such as this. We want the community to know we are an agency willing to offer services and celebrate their accomplishments."
