Happy Monday!
I am unapologetically Christian. I am a dreamer.
I
am also a business woman. Now let me share an
important fact about your dream with you: No matter
how passionately you want to do so, the achievement
of your dream goes against the odds. You may be
talented, passionate, ruthless and determined, but
the odds are still stacked against you.
I know many Christian dreamers are openly rebuking me right now. Go ahead, but after you get your emotions back under control, let me take you to a biblical example that illustrates the achievement of your dream is dependent upon two things: how you respond to challenges to the dream, and God. Most of us are familiar with the biblical account of Joseph (starts Genesis Chapter 37 through the end of Genesis). When it comes to dreamers who make it, he stands out as the most shining example. He was given a dream by God, as have we. There was also a spoken challenge to that dream (Genesis 37:6- 12). Many of us have had spoken challenges to our dreams spoken by friends, family, and even me, remember? While there were several challenges to Joseph's dream, we'll only deal with one today. One of the toughest challenges to your dream is the reaction of family. When Joseph had the dreams of his brothers' sheaves bowing to his sheaf, and of the sun, moon and stars bowing to him, he did what most of us do: he shared his dream with those closest to him. I imagine their reaction surprised him a little. First his brothers made hated him for having the dream, and then his father said, "What are you saying, we are all going to worship you?" The adverse reaction of friends and family to our dream can paralyze us. Families' reaction to our dream can be particularly crippling because not only is the dream questioned, but the dreamer is questioned. When those who know you best say you don't have a right to dream, there is a little girl or boy inside who says, "They are probably right. They really know me." The way to overcome this challenge is to not do what Joseph did: instead of trusting family and close friends (natural) with first information about your dream, lay the dream out before God in prayer (supernatural), and ask Him to give you the mentor or friend who can be trusted with the dream He gave you.
