A Dream is Simply a Fantasy if You Don't Pursue It! by Ola R. Jackson

Happy Monday!
It was May 1991, when I received a check accompanied by a handmade birthday card that read, "Happy Birthday from the Staff of Jackson Communications." Jackson Communications was a home-based public relations business that specialized in media relations and special event planning. My unofficial staff consisted of my husband Daryl and my then 5 year-old son Armon who had pulled together their resources, threw in some artistic talents and presented me with an opportunity.

An opportunity! That was all I needed to start on my journey of fulfilling my dream. The opportunity was my starting point to opening up the gate for me to race through it. The rest was up to me. If it is God's will, you will have everything you need to turn your vision into reality.

Armed with faith, a new name and an expanded vision, came about an 8-page black and white local newsletter called Onyx Woman that had grown into a full-blown magazine with a national subscription base and regional distribution; which has now transformed into a multi-media outlet called Onyx Woman Network (OWN): Media for Women of Color.

Tiger Woods is where he is today, not just because he is good at golf; it is because his father created an opportunity for him to make money doing it.

Venus and Serena Williams are not successful simply because they excel at playing tennis, their father created an opportunity to groom his children so they can make tennis a successful and prosperous career.

If they all kept their visions to a meager fantasy, they would have been playing their sports on the weekends and we might not have ever heard of them.

I encourage you to not sit by and simply wait for life to happen. In other words, don't just fantasize.

"I have been in business for 11 years. I have reached goals that I have never expected. My key to success is plenty of prayer, determination, and the ability to build relationships. At the end of the day that is what it is all about," says Jackson.
