You Can Live Your Dream by Teri Tavernier

Happy Monday!
Are you living your dream or is
it a vague remembrance hidden under the
pile of disappointments, missed
opportunities and "Things I'll Do One day"
you have accumulated over the years?
Your dream is God-given; a gift from God that defines His purpose for your life- to ultimately bring His name glory in the earth. African Americans are a gifted and anointed people. The ancient kingdoms of the motherland affirm our creative genius and versatility. Even slavery and its oppression could not impede or diminish our capacity to dream and create. Today's generation enjoy efficiencies afforded them by the many inventions of our forefathers. Perhaps you've allowed your lack of education, or finances, or the insecurities of not being "somebody" to derail or deter your pursuit. My advice to you, look around. John H. Johnson began one of America's largest publishing companies with a loan on his mom's furniture and bulldog determination. Today, Ebony magazine is a household name. Oprah was neither well known nor beautiful (by network standards at the time). After struggling to overcome the adverse effects of childhood sexual abuse, and working hard to secure a career in broadcasting, she ran smack into a wall of prejudice and bigotry. She used adversities as stepping stones- working with excellence and determination from within her "limitations" to become a world-renown personality. So take the first step by writing your dream and sharing your aspirations with someone who has your best interest at heart. Writing and articulating your dream gives it life and sends it forth. Do your homework. Read, research and talk to people knowledgeable in your area of interest. Then prayerfully devise a plan of action. Of course it won't be easy, and any vision takes time to develop but if you can believe, anything is possible. So get a move on. You were waiting on God, now He's waiting on you!
