5 Steps Your Company can take to Join the Fight to Reduce Childhood Obesity

Let's Move! is an initiative started by the First Lady, Michelle Obama, to solve the problem of childhood obesity within a generation. Through strategic policies and programs, it engages a variety of stakeholders such as businesses, health care providers, chefs, athletes and schools to improve the health of our children.

  • One out of six kids is obese - triple the rate since 1980.
  • Diabetes has more than doubled in teenagers from 9% to 23% in from 1999-2008.
  • Today's children maybe the first generation to have a shorter life expectancy then their parents.

Ambassador of the Month: Mei Yu
As a member of the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce, I have had the honor of meeting a variety of  business owners in our community. My role as an ambassador at the Chamber has given me the opportunity to support and educate new Chamber members and show them how to best use their membership to grow their business. The Chamber is not only for new organizations and businesses; it is also for businesses that are well-established and want to connect with the new companies... read more

We all like geese; they're pretty and peaceful, but Mountain View happens to have quite an abundance of them and they poop on the greens. Some of the birds used to actually eat the greens leaving large holes that had to be... read more
City Council is close to coming to decision on the General Plan in July, if you would like to find our more information about the General Plan and it would mean for Mountain View, please visit www.mountainview2030.com.

Effective July 1, the sales/use tax rate for Santa Clara County will increase from 8.25% to 8.375%, which will become the new rate for all cities in the county except Campbell (which has an additional special tax, causing the total rate for that city to become 8.625%).

What the Supreme Court's ruling means for your health care

Today, the Supreme Court issued a historic ruling: They upheld the Affordable Care Act and ensured that millions of American families will have access to health care and protection from the worst abuses of the insurance industry.

Lots of people have questions about the Affordable Care Act, the Supreme Court's decision, and their health care coverage. We've pulled together the most useful information -- including President Obama's remarks after the announcement -- at WhiteHouse.gov: Watch the video and get the facts here.

Fenwick's Corner: NLRB Issues Latest Memorandum on Social Media Policies
On May 30, 2012, the National Labor Relations Board's Office of General Counsel issued its
third guidance memorandum on social media and the workplace, this time specifically focusing on employer policy language.  By way of background, an employer's social media policy may violate Section 8(a)(1) of the National Labor Relations Act ("NLRA") if it would reasonably tend to chill an employee's exercise of Section 7 rights (i.e., concerted activity for the mutual aid or protection of employees).  This concept applies to even nonunionized workforces.  Employers may glean the following key points... read more
