The Chamber of Commerce Mountain View in partnership with the Santa Clara County Bay Area Green Business and the City of Mountain View, is proud to offer its members a green certification program, Green Business University (GBU). GBU is a 3-month program targeted to small and mid-sized businesses to assist them through a step by step process of the Bay Area Green Business Program Certification. Space is limited to 15 businesses and an application is required to determine eligibility. Official kick-off day is March 01, 2012.

Matthew Butler is the manager of Xceed Financial Credit Union's Mountain View Financial Center, where he is responsible for all of the Financial Center's operations, including supervising 5 full-time associates. Have you seen the changes at Ava's Downtown Market and Deli? It used to be the old Mountain View Market on Castro Street and now it's a clean healthy grocery store that reflects the diversity of Mountain View.  The owners, Juan and Ann Origel, tell me that the transformation is still taking place and that lots more things will be happening in the future, but I'm still very pleased with what I've seen. NLRB General Counsel Issues Pro-Employer Social Media Decisions      
In the last few months, the General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board ("NLRB") - an independent federal agency regulating employees' rights - has issued various advice memos recommending dismissal of cases wherein he determined that employees' Facebook posts did not constitute protected, concerted activity affording them protection from discipline under the National Labor Relations Act ("NLRA"). Increased penalties for employers who "willfully misclassify" 

On January 1, a new state law took effect which all business owners and managers, regardless of company size, should pay close attention to. Independent contractors and consultants might also find this law relevant to their business relationships. This

law increases penalties on employers who "willfully misclassify" as an independent contractor a worker who is an employee. The Legislature defines "willfully" as "voluntarily and knowingly." The penalties are twofold...
