Dear fellow members,
As we begin a new fiscal year at the Chamber of Commerce, I would like to take a moment to reflect on my journey at the Chamber over the past 7 years. I joined the Chamber in 2004 and I remember how impressed I was by the helpful the staff and fellow members. I wanted to connect with other business professionals and I learned that doors open easily through Chamber connections. I'm so pleased that I joined this energetic organization, participated in their activities and have been given the chance to give back to the community.
For the past two years the economy has impacted many local organizations, both small and large. Some have disappeared, but many have survived. The Mountain View Chamber of Commerce also went through some changes and faced the same difficulties. New directions were followed and great programs emerged that we are enjoying today. The last Big Wig was a tremendous success. It drew regional attention and featured local businesses leaders that graduated from the Green Business University. General Motors presented their latest hybrid cars at the event. Mixers continue to be popular and well attended every month. Members are constantly building stronger relationships and new connections in the community. The Mountain View Chamber of Commerce is a catalyst for growth in the business community.... read more

State law defines "commissions" as wages based "proportionately upon the amount or value" of property or services sold by the salesperson. In Harris v. Investor's Business Daily (2006), a California state court held that employees paid on a point system based on the number of newspaper subscriptions sold were not paid on a commission basis, as the point values were not proportionately tied to the subscription price... read more |

Sourdough bread and S'mores bars
I went to lunch with my co-workers this week at Le Boulanger. I think that everyone probably knows that they're famous for their sourdough bread. Le Bou (a term of endearment for Le Boulanger, but not to be confused with "La Bou" which is a restaurant in Sacramento) has won all kinds of awards for their... read more |
