Fenwick's Corner: U.S. Supreme Court Holds Verbal Complaints are Protected By FLSA Anti-Retaliation Provisions

The Supreme Court ruled last month that workers who complain about wage violations to their employer are protected from retaliation under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), regardless of whether those complaints are oral or written.  Prior to this ruling in Kasten v. Chamber Announces the Winner of the 40th Mountain View Art & Wine Logo Contest     

The Chamber of Commerce Mountain View has selected a logo for the 40th Annual Mountain View Art & Wine Festival. Westminster Promotions of Sunnyvale created the winning logo. The logo will be printed on 30,000 posters, 4000 glasses and 1000 t-shirts. The Art & Wine Festival is September 10 and 11, 2011.

Fair Assessments and Judgements Underscore Leadership Mountain View's Public Safety Day 

For their April program day, Leadership Mountain View received an up close and personal look at local public safety.  Program members spent time with both the Mountain View Fire Department as well as the Mountain View Police Department.

Castro Elementary School PTA Creates Enrichment Program to Inspire Future Leaders    
At Mountain View's Castro 
Elementary, being asked to stay after school is a pleasure, not a punishment, thanks to the initiative of the Castro PTA. The PTA realized their students are intensely motivated and initiated an afterschool enrichment program, available to all interested students, with classes taught by parent volunteers and the school's educators.

 

As the majority of Castro's 518 pupils live at or below poverty level, the usual method of funding afterschool programs - requiring families to pay a per-student fee, or the school setting up scholarships - would not have worked. Instead, the PTA... read more

I went to a FabMo distribution event last week. Seriously, it was so exciting that I almost couldn't breathe when I first walked in the door. You have to understand that I'm an artist and the merchandise at these events is exactly what I'm always looking for to use in my artwork. I'm talking about all different kinds of textile samples, everything from high-end expensive silk, linen, velvet, to upholstery, canvas, burlap, heavy denim and everything in between, rolls of wallpaper and tile.
