NOVA Needs You! Sponsor Internships for Young People in the Community NOVA is looking for your assistance in sponsoring internships for young people in our community who would otherwise have no access to the world of work. Early connection to work has proven to increase high school graduation, increase enrollment in post-secondary education or training, reduce teen pregnancy, drug use and court involvement. This impacts students right here in the Mtn. View and Los Altos area. Over the past two years, NOVA sponsored a highly successful summer youth internship program for at-risk youth funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This funding is no longer available and this effort cannot be continued without your help. (In the past, MVLA UHSD has benefited from this well managed internship program for at-risk youth). Your organization can sponsor an internship with a tax-deductible $2,500 donation for a youth to be placed at your worksite or at another worksite in the community. Or you can become an individual donor by making a personal contribution towards funding a youth internship. For additional information, please visit the NOVA Foundation website at, http://novaworks.org/AboutUs/NOVAFoundation.aspx or call Cathy Haynes, NOVA Youth Manager, at 408-730-7631.

Breastfeeding Accomodations Law
Have you instituted breastfeeding-friendly policies in your workplace? According to the California Labor Code 1030 -1033, it is the law to provide lactation accommodations to your employees and you may be fined up to $100 per violation. Besides, supporting breastfeeding is good for your business because it is cost saving and it can be implemented inexpensively. The picture below is an example of what your business will need to accommodate your breastfeeding employees. If you need more information or assistance in becoming a breastfeeding-friendly business, please contact Rebecca Tam, RD, Santa Clara County Public Health Nutritionist at (408) 793-2792 or [email protected].
