Chamber Board Supports Measure T
Measure T is proposed by the Mountain View City Council to update the City's existing Utility Users Tax (UUT) so that it can be applied equally to both, older and newer telecommunication technologies at the current rate of 3 percent. The measure would apply the UUT to all intrastate, interstate and international communications, regardless of technology used. However, the measure would not apply to internet access or video programming services, e-mail or digital downloads of books, music, games and similar digital products. The proceeds of UUT would remain the part of the City's General Fund.

Chamber Opposes Proposition 24-Repeal of Corporate Tax Breaks
The Chamber Board of Directors voted to oppose this proposal because it repeals recently enacted tax benefits, the elective single sales factor, net operating loss (NOL) carryback, and tax credit sharing. It would additionally repeal the recently enacted expansion of the NOL carryover from 10 to 20 years.  This proposal stifles job growth in the state's most promising industries (high tech, clean technology, biotech) that could help California pull out of recession.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, California was home to one of every six businesses nationwide that closed in 2008.  If enacted, this measure could drive businesses out of state.  Read more here
