Registration has been on an incredible pace for the Bicentennial Edition of the The Capital City Half Marathon Presented By Key Bank,The Patrón Quarter Marathon and The Commit to Be Fit 5k.

Meet Jessica Fries-Gunther. This year, she had three friends, all her age, diagnosed with cancer. Her friend, Jennie has fought through breast cancer with style and grace. Her friend Mike underwent surgery and radiation and is thankfully doing well. And sadly, her friend John passed away in November after complications from chemo. There have been others, too - her friend Audry's father, even her friends' young son, Josh (who thankfully is 18-months post treatment and cancer free). But as she was driving home from John's funeral, she felt like it was time to act.

She had already planned to run Cap City which will be her tenth half marathon, a milestone in its own right. But she decided to make those miles more meaningful by raising money for the American Cancer Society. We all want you to support her in her efforts.

Please join Jessica in honoring all of her friends. Or consider donating in honor or in memory of your own loved ones. Jessica will be happy to add them to her list as she runs through the streets of downtown Columbus in May!

New Balance is the Official Footwear and Apparel Partner of the Capital City Half Marathon. Every participant will receive a gender specific Bicentennial Edition Participant Shirt. I had the opportunity to meet with Jennifer Aldrich from New Balance last week and just wait until you see the cool participant shirt design they have in store for you.

New Balance has created an "in training shirt" for sale here with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.

In addition to supplying the participant shirts, New Balance will also provide the super cool half zips for the Diamond Cellar VIP Experience Upgrades (limited to the first 400) as well as age group awards.

We are proud to announce that Maramor Chocolates, a local company, is our Chocolate Partner for 2012. At the finish line celebration Maramor will welcome you with their functional line of chocolates with health bonuses to them. They will provide dark chocolate bars with probiotics added into them, and dark chocolate truffles that have Calcium and Vitamin D3 added to them.

When we tested them out, we really did not care if they were good for us, just that they had the taste fit for a champion. Just wait until you taste these Chocolates at your Finish Line celebration!

What a great year 2012 will be in Columbus. In the words of Mayor Coleman, "there are so many reasons to feel pride in our community, and clearly 200Columbus The Bicentennial is off to a great start. This spring, we will see many reasons to celebrate all the things we love about Columbus during a new festival season."
