Only 94 Days until the Rite of Spring in Columbus!
The New Conference Room - With No Chairs!
    February 1, 2011

    Winter Run

We are only 94 days away from the 8th Annual Capital City Half Marathon on May 7th in Columbus, Ohio. You are receiving this email as you are already registered or we thought you would like to join 15,000 new friends for the ultimate Spring Celebration.

This past Saturday Brent Lalonde, the Capital City Communications Director and I joined up with the MIT Training Program program and ran 5 miles with 500 of our closest friends along the Olentangy Bikepaths. It was amazing to see the paths full of runners and walkers. They were smiling, talking and happy to be out of the house enjoying the relatively balmy 30 degree day.

Brent and I meet a few times a week to review all the things we have to get done before May. During our Saturday morning "meeting", we accomplished more in those 45 to 50 minutes then we ever do in an office. For those of us who have relatively "short" attention spans, it helps to keep us focused. It is amazing what you can get done just running or walking next to someone. Next time you get ready to schedule an office meeting, try the "outdoor version" yourself. Not only will you feel energized but you may have just found a new conference room with a great view, an energizing result and best of all, no chairs.

Coach Julie Champion Athletes need a Champion Coach!
Introducing Julie Wilkes, our New Fitness Coach.

Many events have running coaches. At M3S we are always looking for the next big thing. We were looking for not just a running coach but an inspiring lifestyle and fitness coach. In Coach Julie Wilkes we found that person. After overcoming a heart condition that originally gave her a life expectancy of 12, Julie has taught fitness/yoga/pilates classes for 15 years, and has a Master's degree in Exercise Physiology from The Ohio State University.

Julie has completed various marathons and half marathons around the country and has been the Corporate Wellness Lead for the Capital City Half Marathon.

Through her role with the Capital City Half Marathon, "Coach Julie" will blog on the training page and interact daily with runners and walkers on the Capital City Half Marathon Facebook page. Julie will also answer email questions and questions posed to the @CapCityHalf Twitter account. She will also be a featured speaker at the first-annual Expo Party on May 5-6, 2011.

City Dog 2 The City Dog Day Care.
A great partner, A great service!

I had the pleasure of meeting with Becky Hinga the General Manager of The City Dog Day Care last week. They are located around mile 9.4 of the Half Marathon course. Becky will again join forces with some Special Olympians to host a cheering station and an aid station.

Becky has offered to open her doors on Saturday to take care of your dog while you run Cap City. You can also arrange for her to bring your dog out to see you as you run or walk by and take a photo of the two of you. Now that is pretty cool!

Mark Taylor 3 Your Reason for Running or Walking Cap City!
    Mark, You are a Champion!

Here is an amazing story from Susan Taylor about her inspiring husband Mark.

I am writing on behalf of my husband Mark. Mark has always been a runner and has participated in many marathons and half marathons and other races over the years. He is a very strong and motivated person and always follows through with his commitments and does it well.

On October 30th of this year our lives were turned upside down. Mark fell off our roof while cleaning the gutters and landed on his head. He went to OSU as a trauma and spent 3 weeks in the Neuro Surgical ICU and then 3 weeks at Dodd Rehab hospital. He had two brain surgeries two days in a row and was very, very critical. Three short months ago he couldn't talk, walk, sit up or swallow. His progress has been nothing short of miraculous and today he is home and doing just great. We had talked about doing the Capital City Half Marathon before his accident, and when I brought it up recently he told me he's still doing it and he's going to run it! I will be doing it also (walking) and our two teenagers want to participate as well.

He has had every motivation in the world to get better from his injuries and to know that he wants to get back out there and run is a wonderful thing. We will be there with him and celebrating crossing that finish line..again!!
