Celebrate Something!
Here is to a Remarkable 2010!
|
February 3, 2010

|
Greetings!
In 2010 make sure you Celebrate Something! 2010 is
a great year for getting and living fit. Cap
City is ready to Celebrate You! If you are receiving this
newsletter it is
because you are already registered for the 2010
Capital City Half Marathon and Commit to Be Fit
5k or we think you might be interested in joining
10,000 of your closest friends for a 13.1 or 3.1 mile
block party.
Thanks to your commitment to getting and living fit,
Cap City's registration numbers have exploded.
Based on the
current projections our registration numbers would
exceed more than 15,000 participants! However, we
want to create a "Remarkable Experience" for each of
you and we will cap the field at 10,000.
Over the holidays, I had a less than remarkable
experience when we went to watch my oldest son and
the rest of the Dublin Coffman Marching Band
march in the Walt Disney World Holiday Parade. I was
very curios
to learn how Mickey was going to provide a magical
experience for all during one of the busiest weeks of
the year. Was he going to limit admission and focus
on each
individual's experience or simply open the gates?
Well despite Mickey's best efforts and his closing the
park early, it was incredibly crowed, uncomfortable
and
missed the expectations of all of us. Max and the
band knocked the parade out of the park. However, I
left the "Magic" Kingdom with some great reminders of
why it is more important to cap a field and create a
remarkable experience for each participant than to
simply "open the gates". So, upon my return we
reviewed our course (made a few changes), adjusted
the recovery area, added additional entertainment
(just wait until you hear what we have in store for you)
and are
ready to make the 2010 event a "Magical" experience
for 10,000 of you.
As Walt
Disney himself said, "It is what you do with what you
got that counts". Giddy up!

Your Remarkable Experience Tip #1
Get the Information you need!
With our event growing to 10,000 participants, over
1,000 volunteers and thousands of spectators, I am
going to
provide you with tips that will help you plan for a
remarkable experience.
Tip #1 - Make sure you get all the information!
A year ago we had a participant miss the
start of the event. The start time had been
changed for 10 months prior to event day. It was
on the home page of the website, in 12 newsletters,
at packet pickup, on Channel 10 and anywhere else
we could publish it. Unfortunately, he had registered
11 months earlier and did not read any event
information after he registered.
There is no more valuable commodity than
information! Make sure you follow the event on Twitter,
become a fan on Facebook, make sure
you are
receiving these newsletters and check the website on
a regular basis.
Over the next few months we will Tweet, Post and
email out a number
of tips to make your experience more remarkable, we
just want to make sure you see it!
