Get Fit. Stay Fit. Live Fit.
It's Event Week!

April 27, 2009

|
Greetings!
It is event week at The 6th Annual Capital City Half Marathon and Commit to Be Fit
5k .
You are receiving this email as you are already
registered for the event or we thought this would be of
interest for you and we want to see you at the
party.
In order to provide you with the ultimate
experience we have limited the half marathon field to
5,000 and the Commit to Be Fit 5k Field to 2,000. Over
the weekend we hit our registration maximum for both
events. Due to the demand that we have seen at
packet pickup, we worked with our vendors and the
City of Columbus and now
can make another 200 total registrations available.
We will leave registration open for 48 hours to
fill those spots. Register Now!
To confirm that
you
are registered and to get your bib number, check here.
Start Time. Remember, this year we have a
new start time. Due to
the warmer weather everything is moving up an hour.
The Mascot Chase will start at 7:30am, the Half
Marathon at 8am and the Commit to Be Fit 5k at
8:15am.
Parking and Directions. The event starts and
finishes in the heart of the Arena
District. All of the
parking garages and lots are identified in this map. The starting line is directly in
front of Huntington Park on Neil Avenue. The finish line
party and
family meeting area will again be in Lot A on the
parking map.
Course Maps. The courses for both events
have changed a bit this year. Make sure you take a
look at the new courses. I was out on the half
marathon course
most of last
week. I think you are really going to enjoy this race
course experience. Some shade, some sun and the
best tour
of Columbus on two feet. The run down High Street is
pretty cool and we run and walk right by my favorite
Mexican place.
Pit Stops.
On the half
marathon course this year we will have 8 Aid Stations
with Gatorade, Water, and portapotties. We will also
have a CarBoom! Gel station. The 5k course will
have one water station.
Weather. Keep your eyes on the weather and
be prepared. The forecast currently is for partly cloudy
skies with highs in the lower 60s and lows in the
lower 40s. Track the weather here.
This is the forecasting service we use. If you have a
better link, email me and let us know.
It takes over a thousand volunteers to make this
event
work. If you or your group is interested in becoming
part of our Race Crew, email us as we still have a few
openings. You get cool stuff too.
Don't forget to add your photos and stories on the
Capital City Half Marathon
page on Facebook and follow
us on Twitter @CapCityRun.

We Are Ready for You!
The Best in the Business.
Dr. Darrin Bright has been our medical director since
we founded the event back in 2004. The safety of each
participant is the highest priority for us. Dr. Bright is
not only a marathoner and triathlete himself, he has
differentiated himself as a leader among event
medical directors.
Dr. Bright is involved in the placement of our 8 eight
stations, the placement of the ambulances on course,
the management of all of the medical volunteers
and the management of our mobile medical bicycle
units. We work closely with Dr. Bright all year long to
provide the safest possible experience for YOU!

New Timing System for 2009
ChronoTrack replaces Champion Chip.
The Capital City Half Marathon and
Commit to Be Fit 5k will be
using the new ChronoTrack disposable timing
system. This is a disposable, lighter tag that you
peel off of your bib and easily attach to your shoe to
record your time. Tag time is the most accurate
form of timing available. In addition, the new
timing system will eliminate pre-race chip
assignment, post-race chip return, and fees for
lost or unreturned chips.
Want to see how it works? For instructions, check this out
Want to watch it in action? Check out this video.

What's Your Reason?
I Love This Race!
I ran the inaugural Commit to Be Fit 5k in 2004. A
friend ran the Half, but I had only been running for two
years and I "knew" I couldn't run 13.1. By 2005, I had
been able to increase my mileage and and ran some
local 5k's and 10k's. After watching my sister
complete a marathon, I started to think maybe I could
too. The second Cap City Half was going to be my
test run: if I could "survive" that race, then I would sign
up for the summer MIT training program and do the
2005 Columbus Marathon.
Well, those who
did Cap City 2005 can truly call
themselves "survivors": we got hit by a late-spring
storm trifecta (33 degrees, sleet, 30 mph wind gusts).
It didn't matter. I was hooked and I've done this race
every year since. That's me wearing orange and black
on the Cap City homepage, giving a fist pump as I
approached the finish line!
I love this race! To change things up this year, some
MIT friends and I are doing the "Double Half": Cap City
on Saturday and the Flying Pig Half on Sunday. Call
us crazy!
