Greetings!
I hope you had a nice Valentine's Day and President's
Day weekend. It was great to get a taste of spring last
week with some warmer weather. We are 11 weeks
away from the Capital
City Half Marathon and Commit to Be Fit 5k and
I can't wait for spring to get here.
Please remember that in order to provide the ultimate
experience for all participants, partners and volunteers
we are again limiting the half marathon field to 5,000
and the Commit to Be Fit 5k Field to 1,500. This event
sold out last year and this year we are well over 125%
of where we were last year at this time. The earlier
you register, the more money you will save.
Register Today and start your journey with
us.
To check if you are registered you can check here
Yesterday, we met with Kim Clements and her team at
OSU to talk about a few adjustments to the course.
The excitment down and around campus for this
event is tremendous. Because the event is now in
May we are going to move the event starting time back
to 8am to avoid potential heat issues.
I also had the opportunity to meet with the Arena
District Marketing Team. There is more going on in
this city in the next few months then you can imagine.
With the Bluejackets on the cusp of their first playoff
berth, Arnold Schwarzenegger in town for Arnold
Classic and the Clippers Opening in the brand new
Huntington Ballpark on April 18th it is no wonder that
Columbus,
Ohio is the "Number one sports
town in the United States". The Capital City Half
Marathon and Commit to Be Fit 5k starts and
finishes right in the heart of downtown in the Arena
District.
Don't forget to check out the Capital City Half Marathon
page on Facebook.

Legacy Running - Nate's journey.
A few weeks of Cross Training.
My 12 year old son Nate has been focused on his
hockey these past few weeks with some end of the
season games and tournaments. His training took a
back seat to his skating. Over the past few
months of running and cross training (football,
wrestling, hockey) the "thick" boy I first wrote about
has become much leaner, stronger and calmer.
Keeping with that theme, our
friends at Active have written a some great articles on
the benefits
of Cross Training. Check it out
here.
This week we are back on the roads and continuing
Nate's quest to finish his first half marathon.

Our Late Valentine's Day Gift To You!
Women's and Men's Technical Shirts!
Over 65% of our participants are women! Why would
we make women wear a men's shirt? With those
numbers we should make men wear a women's shirt.
This year in our continued quest to become the
ultimate regional running and walking event we are
adding Men's
and Women's technical shirts. No more cotton and no
more unisex sizing.
We will make the official announcement in the next
few weeks, but due to the fact that the event is about
half
full already, I wanted to get the word out quickly.
We will also be making a big announcement about
the expo soon. In this economy, why should we put
the expo in a place where you have to pay to park just
so you can come pick up your packet. We are going to
have some fun with this as we announce our new
Packet Pickup Picnic Party.

The Columbus Premiere of Running The Sahara.
One Time Special Showing at the Arena Grand Movie Theatre For a Great Cause!
Join us at the special one-night screening of this
feature documentary at the Arena Grand
Movie Theatre
in Columbus, Ohio tomorrow night, Thursday,
February 19 at 7 p.m.
Tickets to the Columbus event include admission, a
live Q&A with Charlie Engle following the film, pre-
show reception and gift bag for filmgoers.
"Running the Sahara" follows three
ultra-marathoners on their 111-day, 4,300-mile
attempt to
run across Africa's Sahara Desert. The film is narrated
and executive produced by Academy Award winner
Matt Damon and directed by
Academy Award winner James Moll. "Running
the Sahara" focuses on three runners: Charlie Engle
from Charlotte, North Carolina, Kevin Lin from Taipei,
Taiwan, and Ray Zahab from Ontario, Canada -
accompanied by a support team consisting of an MD,
a physical therapist, and a logistics leader - as they
attempt to become the first people to ever run across
the Sahara Desert.
"Running the Sahara" inspired Matt Damon and the
producers of the film to create H2O Africa, a
foundation formed to address the need for safe water
in Africa that has raised over four million dollars for
safe water programs in the Sahara and is a
philanthropic component of the film.
Reserve your tickets online.

Sahara.

Capital City Goes Green
Help us set a new standard!
We want to set a new standard in reducing the
environmental impact of the Capital City Half Marathon
and Commit to Be Fit 5k. We are looking hard at
earth-friendly ways to tweak all aspects of our event
management, from registration to porta potties to the
finish line party.
We picked the "low hanging fruit" first. We no longer
create paper applications and brochures. We create
small save the date cards and a limited amount of
posters. It is working. 98% of
you have registered online and we have saved the
energy, paper and ink needed to generate the over ten
thousand printed registration forms we used last
year.
We want you to get involved in helping us by sending
me your ideas and thoughts on how we can become
one of the nations greenest races.

What's Your Reason
A Healthier Mind in 2009!
This week's "Reason" comes to us from Tammie
Evans.
New research has proven that the more you
INTENTIONALLY move your body the better your
memory skills are. I started a new job in 2008 and
there is a lot to learn!
I also am motivated to prevent cancer. My younger
sister has Stage 4 breast cancer and one of the best
known ways to prevent cancer is to eat right and
exercise.
Last I need to lose weight and a commitment like this
with my co-workers is just what I need to keep me
accountable. I have never done a half marathon and
I'm
excited about accomplishing this goal for 2009!
Thanks,
Tammie

Be An Athlete That Finishes for a Cause!
Find out more about Team in Training.
Still on the fence about lacing up for this year's Capital
City Half Marathon? Would running for a cause inspire
you a little more? Better yet, would running with the
knowledge that you WILL complete the 13.1-mile
course throughout downtown Columbus make such a
decision easier?
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In
Training is the world's largest endurance sports
training program. Since 1988, more than 380,000
volunteer participants have helped raise more than
$900 million.
By helping to raise funds for leukemia, lymphoma and
myeloma research and patient services, you'll receive
personalized fitness training by certified coaches,
training clinics and a better introduction into a healthy
habit that will last a lifetime.
You'll train with a team of about 100 athletes in
preparation for the May 2 event. In 2008, Team in
Training participants at the Capital City Half Marathon
combined to raise more than $100,000 for blood
cancer research.
Feel free to contact Andrea
Zelinski at 614-476-7194, ext. 232 or e-mail her at
andrea.zelinski@lls.org if you'd like to learn more
about our program. Or Check out the Website
