A World Class Event in a World Class City!
What's Your Reason?

Greetings!
A blizzard in Columbus, Ohio in March! Are you
kidding me! We had a record 20.4 inches of snow
over the weekend. Oh well, this week it is supposed
to be 50 degrees and yesterday I saw the running and
walking paths getting plowed in Dublin. This week I
am going to rerun Coach Jenny's treadmill training tip
of a few weeks ago as it looks like we will have at
least a few
more days on the treadmill.
This past week I spent some time visiting some of
our
partners out on the course. I shared a tofu bowl with
steamed vegetables at the North Star
Cafe. The food was tremendous. Kevin
Malhame and his team have two amazing restaurants
and we are proud to have them join us an Official
Partner. As Kevin says, "Food is Life". The North Star
Cafe will provide
a free entree to every
participant in the event. They are also providing the
bags for the event made with 100% recycled paper.
I then met with Mary Beth Porter and our friends at
Spice Bar who
will host this year's post race party
celebration. The party starts at 7pm and all
participants get free entry into the party and their first
drink free.
To create the ultimate experience for everyone and
based on the amount of registrations we have been
receiving, we are going to limit our field to the
first 5000 entrants. Do not miss the opportunity to
join
us on April 12, 2008 for the 5th Annual Capital City
Half Marathon Presented by Bank of America and the
Commit to Be Fit 5k!
Register Now!
Your are receiving this email as your have either
participated in one of our events or are already
registered for this event. To confirm that you are
registered you may check here.
I look forward to seeing you in your training.
If you see me and my dog running on the
paths once the snow melts, come join us........David

Penguin Inspiration
Get Ready to Party!
In the old days, races were like final exams. You
prepared during the training season and then let it all
hang out on race day. Those days are gone forever.
These days the races are the celebration of what
you've achieved. You'll stand at the starting line with
five thousand of your closest friends and run and walk
through a world class city, on a tremendous course
and return to a heroes welcome. The final step
across the finish line makes it all worthwhile.

Training Tips from Coach Jenny
Treadmill Training Tips
Is training on a treadmill going to prepare you for the
race? Absolutely! Although the optimal surface to train
on is the same or similar to the race course, you can
train on a treadmill most of the season and still
successfully finish the race. Although training on a
treadmill is a little easier, it still provides an excellent
form of training. Plus it is safe, convenient and a little
easier on your muscles, joints and tendons for those
who are just getting into their running and walking
programs.
Although you can successfully train outdoors all
winter, some days it makes more sense to train on a
treadmill and get in a good quality session. Plus,
training indoors allows your body to acclimate to
warmer temperatures (68-70 degrees). If you are a
seasoned runner and want to equate an indoor run to
an outdoor run, select a hilly course on the treadmill.
Using incline or increasing the speed slightly more
than you would run outdoors will simulate the
intensity of running outdoors. If you are new to running
or walking, don't worry about outdoor versus indoor.
Get in the training workouts regularly and when the
weather breaks this spring gradually shift your
training outdoors at least once per week to prepare
physically and mentally for running/walking in the race.
