Greetings!
After doing most of my training on the treadmill this
past week, it was great to be able to take the dog for a
run in the 55 degree sunshine on Sunday afternoon. I
was in a great mood all day. I was able to run on the
Dublin paths in just running pants and my new
Reebok Premier Quarter Zip Soft Fleece, without even
a base layer. I want to thank Chris Ward and the rest
of the team at Reebok Running for what is now my
most favorite piece of running clothing.
This week we introduce the CD101 "Official Playlist"
for the event. I think you will really enjoy this mix of
music. The list contains some great bands
including U2, R.E.M, Elvis Presley and even The
Beastie Boys. Check out the list! This playlist will be heard
at the Start/Finish Line, at each of the six (6) aid
stations throughout the course and from the CD101
music truck out on the course.
To create the ultimate experience for everyone and
based on the amount of registrations we have been
receiving, we are going to limit our field to the
first 5000 entrants. We are already more than
halfway there. Do not miss the opportunity to join
us on April 12, 2008 for the 5th Annual Capital City
Half Marathon Presented by Bank of America and the
Commit to Be Fit 5k!

Penguin Inspiration
If at First You Do Not Succeed.
Learning how to run and learning how to train is not
the same thing. Learning how to run is a matter of
letting your body adapt to new stresses.
Learning to train means accepting the physical and
emotional ups and downs that come from pushing
your limit week after week.

Training Tips from Coach Jenny
Chafe-Free Training
Lube up for those long training sessions! As the
weather gets warmer the shorts and other fun
clothing come out, the likelihood of chafing comes
into play. Any place there is skin rubbing against skin
can or in some cases, clothing rubbing against skin,
can cause enough friction to start a small fire! Arms,
thighs, chest. Instead of raising the fire risk in your
area, apply a lubricant to these areas. Bodyglide and
Sportshield are products that look like deodorant and
is easy to apply before a training session and the
race. You can also use Vaseline, but it is a little more
messy and can break down the technical clothing.
Guys, put band-aids on your chest (nipples) to avoid
bleeding that often occurs from friction from your
shirt. The small circular band-aids work well and they
even have special "Nip Guards" for this very purpose.
Protect yourself so you don't cross the finish line
looking like someone shot you!
If you get caught chafing on race day, stop by an aid
station and smear a little Vaseline on the affected
area as well as on your shoulder for future use.
