Bill Jackson Retires After 31 years of Dedicated Service
Bill Jackson joined Riverside Research as the Institute's Security Officer on February 18, 1981. Having already completed a distinguished 20-year career in the US Air Force and 7-year stint as Director of Administration at Quest Research Corporation in McLean, Virginia, Bill was primed to take our New York Office by storm. It didn't take long to establish himself as a stalwart employee as he personally orchestrated the relocation of our New York Office within just 16 months of joining the company, a feat he would repeat 18 years later. Bill provided Riverside Research with 31 years of invaluable service, forging countless personal and professional relationships that strengthened our business. He is undoubtedly the biggest "people person" this company has ever seen in the most genuine sense of the term. Although his absence leaves us feeling a bit empty, we celebrate along with Bill in his well-deserved retirement. More on page 2.
Bill's retirement luncheon was held at the Mark Joseph Stakehouse in Lower Manhattan on June 28, 2012. Check out the photos here. |

1969 Scanner and other Historic Newsletters Uncovered
Thanks to Jacquie Palmer and Roz Raskin, several old newsletters have been uncovered and added to the archives homepage. The crown jewel of these historical snapshots is the August 1969 issue of the RRI Scanner, the very first newsletter published by the company. In his introduction message, then-President Lawrence H. O'Neill described the need for a company newsletter against the backdrop of a familiar and welcomed challenge: growth. "The publication of a newsletter implies that we have grown in the size and variety of our research projects to the point at which the old, informal, person-to-person means of seeing that people know what is going on no longer suffices," he said. "I cannot help but regret the passing of the time when we were smaller, less pressed by responsibilities, and homier." While much has changed within the company since 1969, two things have not: (1) we are still an organization characterized by technical excellence and a customer-focused workforce that is second to none, both of which continue to fuel corporate growth; and (2) we are still dedicated to maintaining our small-company, family-type heritage through regular communication that is timely, trustworthy, and supplemental to the more traditional forms of conversation. The newsletters preserved within the archives testify to these facts. We truly hope you enjoy reading about the history of our organization from the perspective of one who has helped build it, for Riverside Research is and always has been a "people company." |
Record Numbers for 2012 Dayton Air Show Youth Events
For the second consecutive year, our interactive e-Texts captivated many of Dayton's youth attending the 2012 Vectren Dayton Air Show. Shawn Kalis, Robin Gibson, Steve Yantko, Andrew Shepherd, Mike Lovingshimer (above), Joe Khan, and Danny Brockman from our Education & Training Directorate were joined by MAD Lab staff member Toni Lovingshimer to facilitate an outdoor activity booth that showcased our Remote Sensing and Geodesy e-Texts as part of the Students Open to Aviation Research (SOAR) and Aerospace Adventures (A2) programs. Despite the miserable heat and lack of adequate ventilation in the exhibit tents, a record number of school-age attendees turned out for the annual event at the Dayton International Airport. Like last year, our e-Texts made quite an impression on many of the students attending SOAR and A2; however, the Dayton area pilot program set to begin in the fall made the e-Texts all the more exciting this year. Read more on our website.
