Topics Covered in this Video: Rebranding and Growth

This is the first installment of "Ask Richard," a new Wavelengths feature that invites you, our staff, to ask Richard Annas questions about the company and receive answers in the form of a video message shared across our growing workforce. The results of our recent employee survey made it very clear that frequent, honest, and relevant communication is greatly valued by our entire staff. Therefore, it is our top priority to provide as many information outlets as necessary to ensure communication from senior leadership is timely and transparent; Ask Richard is just one of these outlets. It provides an opportunity to gain insight into the strategic direction of the company, keep up with the latest happenings, and learn more about Riverside Research in general. In this video, Richard addresses two key topics: rebranding and growth. Watch it here.
Note: Ask Richard has been uploaded to our YouTube channel as an unlisted video. It is only accessible to those that have the link; therefore, please do not forward to anyone outside the company. It is meant as internal communication only. |
Did You Notice? No More Individual PDF Downloads!
Thanks to a suggestion from one of our Intelligence Operations staff members, Wavelengths has a new and improved format. As you browse through this issue, notice that each link takes you to a PDF of the entire publication, not individual PDFs for each section (excludes articles that are posted on our website). We hope this is a less cumbersome way of reading the newsletter. Thanks for the suggestions; please keep them coming! wavelengths@riversideresearch.org |
NMIA Ohio Hosts Congressman Turner at May Luncheon
Dr. Deanne Otto (right) of our E&T Directorate works onsite at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) as a Research Engineer in the Center for Cyberspace Research. She is also the current President of the National Military Intelligence Association (NMIA) Ohio Chapter. As an active corporate member of NMIA, Riverside Research has two other employees serving in leadership positions with the Ohio Chapter: Joel Rieman, Vice President of our Intelligence and Information Systems Group, and Larry Benson, IPA supporting the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC), both serve on the NMIA Ohio Board of Directors.
On May 22nd, Congressman Michael Turner (middle) representing Ohio's 3rd District joined Dr. Otto and NMIA Ohio Chairman of the Board, Dennis Demolet (left), at the Chapter's monthly luncheon to speak about the importance of AFIT, the growth of cyber research, and other news pertinent to Wright-Patterson AFB. Senior Technical Expert Juan Lopez Featured on CNN Money
Juan Lopez of our E&T Directorate has been working to establish Riverside Research as a major player in Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP). Below are some recent activities.
CNN Money Video: Juan was interviewed by CNN Money for his role in leading a research effort at AFIT's Center for Cyberspace Research that addresses critical infrastructure vulnerabilities within the US power grid. Because many of the computers running US power plants were not originally designed to withstand hacker attacks, Juan, our Senior Technical Expert in CIP, is helping the Air Force develop safeguards. This initiative builds upon our corporate qualifications to support the Department of Energy - one of the goals in our Strategic Action Plan. Click the image above to watch the video, or access it here.
Ohio Innovation Sensor Summit: Representing the Center for Cyberspace Research, Juan served as an invited speaker at the Ohio Innovation Sensor Summit at Tech Town in Dayton, Ohio. His presentation, "Securing Our Nation's Critical Infrastructure," was part of the Cyber Security 101 breakout lecture session.
IFIP Technical Committee 11: Juan participated as a voting member representing the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 11.10 (Critical Infrastructure Protection) during the annual meeting of the IFIP Technical Committee 11 (Security and Privacy Protection in Information Processing Systems) in Greece. He was nominated and unanimously accepted as a nominee for the position of Chair for IFIP WG 11.10 at the next election. This elevates Riverside Research's involvement in CIP research to the international level. |
PhD Feature: Donald Patterson
Donald Patterson, Jr. of our National Systems Directorate is making good use of our education reimbursement program. A student at Walden University, Donald is on track to earn his PhD in Management with a specialization in Leadership and Organizational Change by the year 2014. The practical application of his research is already benefiting our customer, the Marine Corps Intelligence Activity (MCIA), where he serves as Deputy Program Manager of MCIA's Full Spectrum GEOINT Analysis and Production Team. Read more about Donald's research and his goal to enhance corporate capabilities here.
Side note: Donald was featured in Wavelengths Volume 17. His article, "An Intelligence Transformation," was published in the Marine Corps Gazette April 2012 issue. In case you missed it, you can access the online version here. |
e-Texts Bring Interactive Scenarios to Space Fest 2012

The reentry scenario shown above is just one of many interactive computer simulations built into our recently developed electronic textbooks (e-Texts). Portions of two e-Texts: Remote Sensing: A View Through Mechanical Eyes, and Geodesy: The Dynamic Earth, helped Space Fest 2012 live up to its "out of this world" billing. Manned by Dr. Andrew Shepherd of our E&T Directorate, the Riverside Research exhibit booth featured simulations involving the Space Transportation System and International Space Station that stimulated the imaginations of younger Space Fest attendees and left the older ones wondering, "where was this technology when I was in school?"
