Installation of new DS in Kenya Eastern District
By Daryll and Verna Stanton
In 1998, Rev. Augustus Musili was a youth with passion to preach the gospel and begin a Nazarene church in his community of Kiatine, Kitui District, E. Kenya. The same passion is still present today as he is installed as the District Superintendent (DS) of Kenya Eastern District. This installation service was bursting to capacity and overflowing with jubilant Nazarenes gathered from nearly 10 churches to celebrate God's goodness and provision on Sunday, 6th May. We sang and vibrantly praised God, prayed, heard many special songs presented, listened to God's Word and later many speeches from pastors, educational leaders, two former DS's, two local chiefs; then many gifts were presented, and a short Graduation Ceremony given for three graduates from Nazarene Bible School of East Africa in a six hour service! The day concluded with a feast of goat meat, rice, potatoes, beans, sodas and finally the cutting of the celebratory cake.

The Kiatine church grew rapidly from meeting on planks under a banana leaf 'roof', to an iron sheet structure, then the permanent building. It has also planted churches in many other nearby areas. With the assistance of the Kiatine community, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, Work and Witness teams and other generous donors, this missional local church has also initiated, a clinic, a Nazarene Nursery and Primary Academy with 192 students.
Plus, after more than three years of concentrated effort, prayers and donations, this congregation has recently helped its semi-arid community to finally access water from a well dug 100 metres deep. Since electricity and running water has now arrived, the increased possibilities for health and development are abundant!

The Bondo Nduswe Nazarene Children's Center is determined to change the lives of many by providing proper education and teaching the love of Christ.
In July of 2011 the center moved into its new building in Bondo Nduswe. The center started with approximately 45 children but they have done so well in focusing on their goal that, in less than a year they have grown to 100 students.
The school teachers all serve as volunteers and with a passion for God and for these children. Their devotion to these kids is so strong that many also teach Sunday School in the Church that hosts the children's center. Mary, a teacher explains that their ultimate goal is to prepare these students for a better future. With the willingness to teach these children Christian principals, and help with their general education, Bondo Nduswe Nazarene Children's Center is seeing the results.
The church has also grown through this ministry and has reached a staggering 150 members. There are programs for both youth and children's ministry in the Church that supplement the CDC. Through the work done by Gods beloved servants at the Nazarene Children's Center, Gods love will reach many.

Radio: Still Impacting Lives!
By World Mission Broadcast Africa Have you ever wondered how much radio broadcast reaches the world these days? With the Internet, social networks, video and incredible computer generated television and movies taking the world by storm, one would think radio would not have much of an impact. However, In Africa, it still does. Despite Internet and smart phones reaching just about every corner of the earth, radio does make an impact: A rather large and important one at that.Take for instance, Prao Kouakou's ministry in radio. Prao, a District Superintendent in Cote D'Ivoire, Africa knows the benefit of radio broadcast. His broadcasts have reached into places and people groups that the church cannot go personally. His programmes, including "Nazarene Time" have made an impact on the lives of people who are of very different religious persuasions. Often Rev. Prao is asked for Bibles, literature and information regarding the Church of the Nazarene, specific Bible study material, and of course prayer. He recently was asked if he could send a Bible to a listener in Mali. This listener has a desire to learn and study more about Jesus Christ on his own. The Lord is working incredibly through theses radio broadcasts as this person takes great risk of being ostracized from family, faith, and home by just asking for a Bible. God's grace goes out before us and works in the hearts of all people. It is simply our mandate as Christians to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ in whatever manner we have the capacity to present it. Prao Kouakou understands this mission and through radio, has reached the unreachable with the Gospel of Jesus Christ that transforms lives. |
Celebrating Holiness makes and Impact in Mozambique
Dear Readers. The Africa Region has been Celebrating Holiness since the beginning of Lent. This initiative to all of the Nazarene Churches across the continent, was statrted initiate a move for revival in the Africa Church of the Nazarene. Beginning with Prayer and Fasting, Churches are utilizing Sermon outlines, Devotions, posters, flyers and other materials that were developed and distributed. Stories have been starting to be told of how the Holy Spirit is moving and ministering in many churches and districts across the continent. The testimonies below are two examples from Mozambique that express the story of God's mighty work across Africa.
Please note these stories are directly translated and little editing has been done so that you our readers can enjoy the testimonies as they are told from those who are experiencing revival as they Celebrate holiness.Testimony I There is no question about the impact that the Celebrating Holiness material has had in our churches. At Zobwe church after they have received the material, the Pastor decided to teach during a time of Sunday school. The congregation asked that the celebrating Holiness Devotional book that was given to the church should be taught every Sunday during the Sunday school time. After that, the book was also used during Friday services. The Church is involved in prayers and fasting. The material of celebrating holiness has helped the Church to have a spiritual revival. The lives of the people have experienced transformation even throughout their families. The ladies' meeting that takes place on Thursdays and youth meetings on Saturday's also uses the material Celebrating Holiness for their meetings. The people are being set free during this time of celebrating holiness. Another testimony comes from Macanga, Mozambique. They wrote: The material is good said one pastor. It is transforming my life and the life of my church members. I have been in in the ministry for many years, preaching and teaching but this material has helped me to understand very simply, the meaning of holiness. Now I can teach and preach with a better understanding using this material. The attendance of the people in the church has increased as well as the offerings. People spend most of their time in prayer. Many people are being saved and they commit their lives to Christ. Rev. Albino Banda, Mozambique. Area Coordinator for strategy & District Superintendent,

From Senegal to Nairobi:
A Missionary's Story.

Gail Andreas began her missionary career in 2010 as a volunteer with a one-year contract in Senegal, West Africa. She spent nine months as the Jesus Film Coordinator for the West field. Dr. Filimao Chambo, Africa Regional Director, asked Gail, if she would consider finishing her volunteer time in Johannesburg, South Africa working in the finance office. She accepted and began working in Field Allocations. It wasn't long when Gail was asked if she would consider changing her contract from volunteer to specialized assignment. Upon this request, Gail realized God had answered her prayers. "This is the long-term position that I had been praying for since before I arrived in Africa and before I had any idea what the position might be. I started out as a volunteer with the prayer that I would be able to stay with a ministry in Africa long term. I totally stepped out in faith and was ready for whatever door the Lord might open. The blessings I have experienced have been abundant both in ministry and personally." After a year working in the Africa Regional Office in Finance, Gail is moving to Nairobi, Kenya where she will take over the Africa East Field treasurer position from Donna Lovett. Donna and her husband Russ have been faithful missionaries since 1977 and are retiring after their 1-year, Home Assignment starting in September 2012.
"It was an answer to my prayer of being able to be long-term in Africa ministry. The position in Kenya was one step further with that same prayer." Gail's testimony to the faithfulness of God and his direction for her life is a lesson we all need to share. He hears our prayers and answers our prayers just as he promised. |
