Tee it Forward Continues!
We are committed to making your golf experience as pleasant as possible. The Tee it Forward Program is designed to enhance everyone's enjoyment of the game by providing information on which tees players should play from based on average driving distance.

Playing tees that are too long is the biggest mistake many aspiring players make. Whether it is lack of knowledge, peer pressure, or a need to "see the whole course", playing tees that are too long greatly hinder one's ability to enjoy the game and to shoot the best scores possible.
The PGA of America and the USGA partnered back in July to create a national initiative designed to help players choose the right sets of tees.
We want to continue this trend into the fall months and beyond.
Tee it forward during your next round, and you will most likely have as much fun as ever playing the game of golf!
Updated Policy on Fivesome Play
In an effort to provide the best golf experience possible for our valued patrons, we have discontinued allowing fivesomes to play on the weekends (Saturdays, Sundays, & holidays). This will improve pace of play during our busiest times and allow players an opportunity to play a round of golf at a better pace.
Fivesomes will still be allowed to play Monday-Friday at the discretion of the golf staff. They will not be permitted for group or tournament play.
We appreciate everyone's cooperation as we work to improve the golf experience here at Miramar. Please call the golf shop at 858-577-4155 should you have any questions.

From the Desk of the Superintendent
by Steve Parker, Golf Course Superintendent

"DON'T FENCE ME IN!"
Have you ever played a golf course which was over-roped? I am talking about ropes down the cart paths, in front of the greens, and other areas which force you to carry several clubs as you walk over to your golf ball. I personally find excessive ropes and cart signs to be a distraction to the game.
Here at Miramar a couple of high traffic locations are at #7 fairway between the bunkers, and #9 fairway near the fairway bunker. These areas are normally roped for much of the year to divert the golf cart traffic.
If you have been playing here recently you may have noticed that there are very few ropes or cart signs. At the present time the only areas with ropes or signs are irrigation leaks or soft wet areas. This gives the golf course a much cleaner and more natural appearance. I would love to leave the ropes and signs in the barn. Please help me in this endeavor by observing the 90 degree rule in the fairways and please keep your golf carts at least 50 feet from the putting greens. With your cooperation I hope to keep the ropes and signs stored in the barn for good. We will share a much more attractive and natural looking golf course with your cooperation.
I am also investigating the possibilities of hole ownership. I would like to speak with any Miramar patrons who would be interested in helping to maintain a golf hole. This would involve repairing ball marks, filling divots, pulling some weeds, picking up trash and ensuring the rakes, flags, pins, cup liners etc. are in good condition. It would also give you an opportunity to give me some feedback on how you would like to improve your hole. This would not mean that the maintenance crew would sit in the shop all day while the golfers do our work. It would mean a sense of ownership and responsibility to help us maintain your golf hole.
Let me know if your are interested - contact us at 858-577-4155. You know where to find me.
Sincerely,
Steve Parker

Practice with a Purpose: Develop a Practice Plan
by Michael C. Jones, PGA
So often, we judge our practice sessions by the amount of time we put in, thinking that beating hundreds of balls on the range is the way to lower our scores.
This could not be further from the truth.
I tell my students all the time that they should only practice as long as they have the focus and attentiveness that grooving a new swing thought or feel requires.
Going to the practice tee with a plan will do many positive things for your game. First and foremost, it will give your mind's eye a clear picture of what to work on.
For example, let's say you wanted to work on full swing alignment. Using practice aids such as alignment sticks is a very productive way to ensure that you are not "guessing" where you are lined up. Now, the focus can be on retaining the feel of good alignment rather than wondering if there are serious faults in that area.
As soon as your concentration waivers, head to the practice putting green and work on one important key there, such as speed control.
Approach all of your practice sessions this way, and you will find you are wasting less time on the range and spending more time putting for birdies!
Fairways & Greens,
Michael C. Jones, PGA
