Greetings!

Welcome to the second issue of the California Corporate College Client Chronicle (C5)!  This edition of C5 is focused on training solutions, funding resources, and special offers for those of you in the manufacturing and energy workspace.

The mission of California Corporate College is to provide a single point of contact for businesses, governmental agencies, associations, and organizations to access training and workforce preparation services throughout California.  It is created as a cooperative venture of California's 112 Community Colleges.
CALIFORNIA CORPORATE COLLEGE AND THE QUALITY GROUP:  #1 PARTNERSHIP IN PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

The California Corporate College (CA CC) is proud to announce its partnership with The Quality Group (TQG) and California Corporate College's membership in the TQG Academic Partner Network (APN) -- a collaborative, national network of community and technical colleges and universities.  APN members are local and regional deliverers of TQG's best-in-class, blended e-Learning training and belt certification programs for Lean, Six Sigma, and Project Management. As a result of the TQG relationship, CA CC will greatly increase its capacity to serve the education and economic development needs of individuals and organizations in our communities.

The Quality Group and its Academic Partners train employees in manufacturing, energy, healthcare, pharmaceutical, hospitals, financial services, and more. Top clients include AT&T, Chevron, CSX, Hospira, Monsanto, Raytheon, Seagate and the U.S. Department of Defense. The TQG/CA CC team believes strongly that people are the secret to business and operational excellence! As Dr. Liker, author of The Toyota Way, stated, "Enabling people ... is to teach them how to think."

Getting everyone to learn, apply, and implement Process Improvement (PI) is an ongoing challenge for most employers. Today, organizations seek 21st Century PI learning solutions that exploit the internet and increase training quality. With TQG as its blended e-Learning provider, California Corporate College is able to deliver Lean Six Sigma/PI training and belt certification programs that achieve superior learning outcomes, with less student, less in-class, and less instructor time (30-70%), and at a significantly lower cost, when compared with prevailing 100% instructor-led training approaches.

Quick Start your Training in 2012 - Use the State of California Funding to offset your training costs

California Manufacturing & Technology Association (CMTA) hasCMTA Logo partnered with California Corporate College to assist manufacturers in offsetting the cost of training. CMTA has already applied for these training funds so you don't have to hassle with the State of California paperwork and the normal application process.

Did you know that your company can get paid by the State of California to deliver training to your employees?

This looks too good to be true. Is this for real?
Many companies pass up this opportunity because they think, "This can't be for real, what's the catch?"  No catch... most California companies pay into this training fund but only certain companies such as manufacturers are eligible to use the funds.

And CMTA will handle all the administrative work.  You can start getting paid to train your employees in as little as seven days.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How is the California Manufacturers & Technology Association (CMTA) involved?
In January 2012, CMTA was awarded a $750,000 Employment Training Panel (ETP) contract. CMTA holds the contract with the ETP instead of your company and this makes the paperwork a breeze. Your company may be eligible to get started training in as little as a week, and CMTA has developed a customized database to track all of your training. We will assist you with all aspects of administration of the contract.

Can I use my employees to deliver training?
You may use your internal subject-matter experts to deliver the training or external training vendors sourced through the vast network of instructional resources available through the California Community Colleges.

What state agency runs this program and how does it reimburse our company for training?
The Employment Training Panel (ETP) is a state of California agency that provides up to $75 million in job training funds annually to employers throughout the state. The training funds are paid to the state by all private sector employers.

What type of training can these funds be used for?
Class Topics - training hours can consist of one subject or combination of topics, including:

  • Business Skills such as Customer Service or Accounting
  • Commercial Skills such as Construction Skills
  • Computer Skills such as Microsoft or Oracle programs
  • Continuous Improvement, such as Lean Manufacturing, Quality Control
  • Management Skills such as Leading a Team
  • Manufacturing Skills such as Cross-Training in Production Operations

FROM DEVELOPMENTAL DIMENSIONS INTERNATIONAL THROUGH THE CALIFORNIA CORPORATE COLLEGE
Meeting
In a newly formed partnership, Developmental Dimensions International (DDI) and the California Corporate College (CA CC) are bringing the internationally known and recognized "Human Side of Lean and Six Sigma" to our manufacturing companies.

Executing Lean and Six Sigma Initiatives
Organizations are attracted to Lean and Six Sigma for their dramatic financial impact. Numerous success stories tout significant savings in process improvements, waste reduction, and productivity.  But leading in a "Lean" environment is about more than cost savings. About more than being disciplined and data-driven. And about more than aiming for virtually defect-free products and processes.

The viability of a truly impactful Lean initiative depends on the motivation of employees to do things in new ways, using new procedures, and relying on new levels of collaboration within both work teams and cross-functional teams.

DDI knows that, when implemented correctly, using powerful statistical tools and methodologies combined with the appropriate leadership approaches and workforce skills, Lean or Six Sigma initiatives can have a tremendous positive impact on the organization's culture.

Support for the People Side
We have many solutions to support the people side of your lean initiative. Among our specific capabilities or solutions:
  • People Leader Skills Development:  Our Interaction Management®: Exceptional Leaders . . . Extraordinary Results® leadership development system develops the critical skills leaders need to empower, coach and develop their teams to drive the lean initiative.
