Integration of EMR, PMS continues to be top priority
Your Practice Management Team continues to explore options to integrate Electronic Medical Records and Practice Management software that will meet the needs of our family of clinics. We are considering software solutions that have many different components, but are ultimately keeping in mind your documentation needs, the unique complexities of your practice, as well as your Central Office "Life Cycle of the Claim" systems. The software components we are seeking would ideally give us the ability to capture patient management skills; ensure medical necessity documentation requirements; integrate with our proven internal pre-bill auditing system; combine coding specificity with payers and CCI edits; schedule with single and multiple provider practices; automate customer retention and marketing opportunities; remain in compliance with ICD-9 while being prepared to transition to ICD-10 and changes in electronic billing; and interface with national practice management software. This is not a decision we are taking lightly and we are committed to making a thorough, educated and thoughtful selection. We look forward to implementing an EMR and PMS solution that is the absolute best match for our family of talent. We welcome your insight on components that are specific to your clinic's documentation. E-mail Connie at rms-cz@tds.net or Kevin at rms-ks@tds.net if you would like to contribute your thoughts. |

Consult with coordinator leads to industrial referrals
 | | Amy Greenfield, PT | Established business relationships and open communication have led to increased work injury and prevention cases in our Wisconsin market. While treating the Health & Safety Coordinator of a large regional company, Amy Greenfield, PT, Clinic Director, Spooner Physical Therapy, happened to ask about the company's industrial rehabilitation program. As it turned out, the Health & Safety Coordinator believed the workplace could benefit from ongoing consulting services and enlisted Amy's help.
Amy began examining how the company handled injuries and its general wellness programs. She also spoke with the Health & Safety Coordinator about other industrial services her clinic had offered to other area companies. Most importantly, Amy said, she talked about how she could reduce the amount of injuries and promote injury prevention at the company. »»» Read more |

Study: Patient experience valued over outcomes
A new article in the Journal of Physical Therapy suggests it may be wise to manage patient expectations more when discussing therapy outcomes. The article, published in the January 2011 issue of the journal, concludes that, "treatment outcome was infrequently and inconsistently associated with patient satisfaction. Physical therapists can enhance the quality of patient-centered care by understanding and optimizing these determinants of patient satisfaction." The article reviewed 15 studies, clinical trials and qualitative studies addressing the satisfaction of patients who have received outpatient physical therapy musculoskeletal care. It found that patient satisfaction is consistently high and that determinants of satisfaction include interpersonal aspects of treatment (e.g. effective communication and empathy), the process of care (e.g. continuity of care and adequate treatment duration), and well-organized care (e.g. convenient access and low waiting times). »»» Read more |

» Your daily carrot: "To accomplish great things, we must dream as well as act." - Anatole France
In 1954, a milestone in sports was achieved that no one had thought possible: the four-minute mile. The record stood for less than a month.
Soon, the four-minute mile became a benchmark of what a great runner should be capable of achieving.
In every business, there is a four-minute mile barrier, some ideal of service, innovation, or commitment that employees strive for and wonder if they'll ever actually meet.
Over time, though, what once seemed like miracles will become expectations. If you had to write down your miracle accomplishment, your four-minute mile in business, what would it be?
Write it down and start running toward it. That's how progress works. - Adapted from The Daily Carrot Principle: 365 Ways to Enhance Your Career & Life by Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton |

Network of PTs has great success recruiting talent
Though new PTs may have many employment options from which to choose when they graduate, our network of physical therapists has had great success in recruiting new talent to join our family.
Over the last few months, several new PTs have been hired, including DPTs, and also PTAs. Kevin Svoboda, PT, National Clinic Growth & Development Director, attributes the success to marketing efforts, in-person meetings with providers, meetings with the Practice Management Team and recruiting efforts by the Human Resources Department. »»» Read more
