Fallon Naval Base

Surfacing Solutions Inc. was contracted to install 2" overlay of concrete over a sub base of structural concrete that was 20" thick.  Work area approve: 2850 sq. ft.

The premise was to create a decorative concrete floor with exposed aggregate and Schluter zinc strips dividing the different colors of concrete.

We prepared the existing structural slab by grind a profile of CSP 2, then applied Westcoat specialty products EC-12 epoxy and broadcast Silica sand into the wet epoxy.

We screwed down the terrazzo strip into the structural slab. The strip was 3/8" wide and 2" tall.

Next we poured concrete from local concrete supplier Hiskett and Sons of Fallon Nv. The mix was a 4000 psi high strength mix with stealth fibers for cracks resistance.

We poured over a three day period doing a different color each day. Natural grey, charcoal grey and black.

We then let the concrete cure for 3 weeks and returned to grind and polish the concrete.

We filled all the saw cuts with Hi Tech poly urea, then ground down enough to see the aggregate with 40 grit diamonds, then up to 400 grit diamonds for a sheen, applied  " Retro plate 99" densifier and " Retro Guard" and burnished the guard for a great shine.

Surf Sand and SSI?  Apparently a nice combination!

Division 2 had SSI on their O'Neill Corporate Offices projects  years ago and recently called us back to work on their Killer Dana, Jack's boards and Rip Curl projects.

We enjoyed all four jobs immensely partly because hey who doesn't love working near the beach  and also because Division 2 are a great group of guys.

Their creative division JPS Designs incorporated some fun applications for SSI to install.

Killer Dana -  The design team at JPS wanted to simulate a sandy beach at the entrance of the store so SSI installed an epoxy pebble floor in earth tones for the foyer.
In the remainder of the store SSI profiled the floor with a rough grind to apply a clear sealer on.  This look is very popular in retail clothing shops, it is rustic  as well as extremely durable.

Jacks Boards - This project had a 40 year old concrete slab and the design called for a polished floor, this is always a little tricky with this age of concrete in a retail situation.  Generally there have been many floor treatments over the years and this was certainly the case here.  In removing the old application  damage of  nail holes, pot holes plumbing trenches, chips and spalls were revealed.  SSI used Mapei qwik patch to fill and bring the floor back to flat.  When this step was completed the floor was cut with 40 grit to flatten the repairs and remove any remaining glue from the previous flooring.  The SSI team then hit the floor with 80 metals and applied densifier to get the PSI numbers we wanted.  SSI then  moved to several stages of resins followed by another application of densifier.  The last step was a coat of stain guard which was finished with a high speed burnish.
