                     A Comparison of Dan 7:8 and 8:9  

          

        There are subtle differences between the two little horns which show

        that they are two separate characters. We will look at 10 differences.

                         The Little Horn of Daniel 7 (LH7)

                         Versus the Little Horn of Daniel 8 (LH8)

                 

                    1. LH7 is associated with the fourth world empire

                          LH8 is associated with the third world empire

 

                    2. LH7 rises out of the head of the 4th beast

                         LH8 rises from one of the four horns of the 3rd empire

 

                    3. LH7 rises in the midst of 10 existing horns.

                         LH8 rises alone. No other horns are mentioned.

 

                    4. LH7 is a fresh new power

                         LH8 grows out of an older existing horn

 

                    5. LH7 is a horn that comes out of a beast

                         LH8 is a horn that comes out of a horn

 

                    6. LH7 uproots 3 horns in its rise

                         LH8 uproots no horns in its rise

 

                    7. LH7 is diverse from the other 10 horns

                         LH8 is not said to be different than any other horns

  

                    8. LH7 in Aramaic means "another horn, a little one"

                         LH8 in Hebrew means "a horn from littleness"

 

                    9. LH7 is "more stout (stronger) than his fellows" (v.20)

                         LH8 is not compared to other existing fellow horns

 

                  10. LH7 Its field of influence in Western Europe (the 10 horns)

                        LH8 Its field of  influence is in Eastern Europe

                                  Versus Daniel Chapter 8

 

                  1. Ch7 - World powers represented by unclean beasts 

                       Ch8 - Represted by the sacrificial animals of sanctuary

 

                  2. Ch7 - Written in Aramaic, a gentile language for gentile powers

                       Ch8 - Written in Hebrew, intended for the Jews

 

                  3. Ch7 - Prophetic spotlight on the entire world

                       Ch8 - Emphasizes the Jewish sanctuary and Jerusalem

               Similarities of the Two Little Horns

                      They Look like Alike at First Glance

 

 

                  1.  The same symbol is used of both

                  2.  Both appear at about the same time in history

                  3.  Both begin small and become great (7:8 and 8:9)

                  4.  Both are blasphemous powers (7:8, 25 and 8:11, 25)

                  5.  Both persecute the saints of God (7:21, 25 and 8: 11, 25)

                  6.  Both endure for protracted periods of time (7:25 and 8:14)

                  7.  They suffer similar fates (7:26 and 8:25)

 

                     None of these features are mutually exclusive leaving open

                     the possibility that they signify parallel powers.
