Theory 5 - Antiochus and Mohammedanism

This theory explains this prophecy as a double fulfillment.

"The Mohammedan power is the main fulfillment of this symbol, but

it had a precursive fulfillment in the person of Antiochus Epiphanies

His career accords so closely with the prediction as to leave little

room for doubt that he was one subject of the prophecy."

There Were Two Little Horns

One in the East, One in the West

There are only two little horns in bible prophecy, and there are

only two powers which answer exactly to the symbols. Powers

which were insignificant at first, but waxed exceeedingly great.

Each proudly opposed Christ and fiercely persecuted His people.

They repressed the truth and tread down literal Jerusalem and

spiritual Jerusalem (the church) respectively.

The Papacy was the apostasy in the west while Mohammedanism

was a parallel apostasy in the East. Both began in the 7th

century and have now largely run their course.

Soli-Lunar Chronology

The East Uses Lunar Chronology

The careers of both little horns lasted 1260 years. The Papacy

was 1260 solar years (538-1798). Islam was 1260 lunar years

from the Hegira(622-1844).

Guiness predicted when Jerusalem would be cleansed from the

infidel Turks in his remarkable book. But, it is beyond the scope of

this article to explain his soli-lunar theory or why he knew that

1917 was to be the 1335.

History Proved the Point

Grattan Guiness was Vindicated in 1917

William Miller's followers were looking for a fulfillment in the church

in 1844. They were disappointed and over 150 years later they

continue to rationalize their disappointment.

But, in December 1917, General Edmond Allenby humbly walked into

Jerusalem and confirmed the Mohammaden theory and the soli-

lunar chronological system Guiness discovered a generation before.

The Litmus Test

Which Theory Builds Your Faith

Now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come

come to pass, ye might believe. Jn 14:29

Prophecy was given to increase our faith when the events

predicted come to pass. By this standard it is clear which of the

five interpretations of Daniel 8:9 is true.

Theory 1 - Futurism's prophecies never come to pass.

Theory 2 - Preterism denies that this was a prophecy.

Theory 3 - Led to the great disappointment of 1844

Theory 4 - Spectacularly fulfilled in 1917.

Theory 5 - The most satisfying solution.
