Halley's Bible Handbook
An Historicist Best Seller Until 1965
Halley

Halley's Bible Handbook was the most popular historicist Bible commentary of the 20th century. An abbreviated commentary loaded with extras, it was emphatically Protestant.

However, in 1962 the Billy Graham Evangelical Association secured the rights to the book and in violation of the contract and against the family's wishes removed pages 676 thru 705. These
pages contained a concise history of Catholic persecutions
through the centuries.

The Interpretation was Switched
From Futurist to Historicist without a Footnote

Not only was the section on Catholic persecution removed, but his
interpretation of Daniel and Revelation was changed from historicist
to futurist.

Halley used the traditional historicist viewpoint without any Adventist
or BI influence. The four empires were Babylon, Persia, Greece and
Rome. Rome divided into ten kingdoms in 476 AD. Three kingdoms
were plucked up and a little horn emerged which was the Papacy or
AntiChrist.

He believed in the year day principle.

Revelation was written in 96 AD and the fifth and sixth trumpets
were the Arabs and the Turks.

Lateinos was the solution to 666 and he followed Horae Apocalypticae
pretty closely for the seals and the trumpets. Unlike Horae, he did
not see the vials as having an historical fulfillment.

He added a little history and some asides in the interpretations which
made it interesting. It was very readable and of course concise.

Halley Devoted Himself to the Word
His Memorization of Scripture was Legendary

Henry Halley made it his duty to commit the scriptures to memory.
Hours and hours were set aside to learn the Word that it might be
rehearsed at a moment's notice. He was frequently asked to recite
scripture and legend has it that he could quote scripture for 25 hours
without looking at a reference (or a teleprompter).

Mr. Halley's life's work was changed from a Protestant to a Jesuit
interpretation without even a footnote!

Zondervan completed the desecration of his bible handbook by changing
it from KJV to NIV. He would have never tolerated it.

Compare it to the Version in the Bookstore

You can obtain pre-1965 versions of Halley's on used bookstore web sites. Make sure you aren't buying one of the BGEA Crusade versions. Get one and compare it to what is selling today. It is eye opening.
Fortunately, Henry Halley will never see one.

With the last major historicist publication removed, the way was paved
for Late Great Planet Earth (1970) and the revival of Futurism.
