CELEBRATE RED CROSS MONTH THIS MARCH
|
|
Each year, the President of the United States proclaims
the month of March as "Red Cross Month," to honor the lifesaving work
the organization does throughout the year. Show your support and celebrate with
us by donating blood.
In the United States, every two seconds someone needs
blood. It must readily available for accident victims, people undergoing
routine surgeries, people with rare blood disorders, and premature babies.
Our next conveniently located blood drive in Sandy will
be at the Sandy Fire Station on Wednesday, March 11th from 2-7pm. The Sandy Fire Station and the Mt. Hood
Hospice are sponsoring the drive.
To schedule an appointment to donate whole blood or
double red cells, go to www.redcrossblood.org sponsor code: SandyComm or call American Red
Cross at 503-528-5603.

Good Morning! Our new website is up and running! There are a few sections that are still under construction, and I'll need to catch up with some updates next week, but, please, do some exploring and take a look at it. Most of the format is similar to our previous website, but Kelly and Laura with Alphabetix have made some great improvements including a month-by-month calendar, a search function, and a "news" blog!

LIMERICK CONTEST & ST. PATRICK'S DAY CELEBRATION
|
Calling all poets! It's time for the Sandy Library's 6th Annual Limerick Contest. A limerick is a short, humorous poem that is named after the city of Limerick in Ireland, and has been popular for hundreds of years. The contest provides an opportunity for anyone who is interested to try their hand at writing a limerick. Who knows, you might even get lucky and win a prize.
Winners of the contest will be announced at the Limerick Night event on March 19th at 7:00, which will be hosted by the comical Dan Bosserman. All contestants will be asked to read their limericks for the audience. In addition, the award winning, exuberant, An Daire Irish Dancers will delight the audience with an energetic, traditional dance performance and The Cotter Brothers will be singing traditional Celtic ballads. Free refreshments will be provided by The Friends of the Library.
As in years past, there will be categories for middle school, high school and adult, but this year there will also be a grade school category.
Limericks must be submitted to the library by Mar. 17.
Prizes can only be claimed by contestants (or designated proxies) who are present at the Limerick Night event. Non-contestants are welcome to come support the poets and enjoy the festivities!
