National Organic Awards 2010

Reeling in National Organic Award!

Bord Bia's National Organic Awards were held in Dublin on Tuesday last (14/09/2010) to celebrate the organic industry's major contributors in 2010. Now in its 4th year, The National Organic Awards are recognised as an important feature of the organic food and drink industry. Five awards in total were dished out, with "Murphy's Irish Seafood" picking up the prestigious "Best Organic Export Product for 2010". This award seeks to recognise the achievement of an Irish organic product on an export market whereby the product has proved its quality and taste in other Markets. The award was won for their Organic Irish Salmon which is exported throughout Europe and the U.S.A.

Murphy's Irish Seafood, a sister company of Fastnet Mussels Ltd, was established in 2007.  The company has total control of the entire organic process from hatchery to customer, as the company comprises of its own hatchery, farm boats and production facility.  The salmon are fed only natural and organic ingredients from sustainable sources.  In an already highly competitive market, the company has established itself as a leading light in the production and promotion of top quality Irish Organic Salmon.  On receiving the award, company owner Mr. John Murphy stated "We are delighted to win the award. Back a couple of years ago we felt there was a niche market for organic Irish salmon that needed to be filled. We are avid organic supporters and are looking at developing other organic seafood products including mussels in the near future" This is an exciting time for the west cork based firm, as they will be launching their new retail brand "The Fisherman Murphy" for the Irish retail market next month along with a new company website and charity Portfolio.

"The Fisherman Murphy" brand is a new retail brand with a focus on convenient ready to eat mussels and other seafood treats and should be in store near you soon!!!

GOAL 2010

GOAL 2010 - Feeding the Rising New Middle Class

John Schramm will represent Tropical at GOAL 2010, which is taking place this year in Kuala Lumpur, October 17th-20th.   The Global Outlook for Aquaculture Leadership (GOAL) is an annual conference organized by the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA).  Since it's initiation in 2001, Tropical has been firm supporters of the GAA's efforts at this conference.

This year the conference is looking to give attendees an overview of where aquaculture is now and how it must sustainably grow into the future.  GOAL 2010 combines strategic information on aquaculture production and marketing with good opportunities to network and expand business horizons.  GOAL 2010 will also consider market-side issues like carbon footprint, economics and pricing, as well as the essential role of breeding in industry growth.  The meeting is expecting over 300 of the top business players in aquaculture and seafood.

Polyculture is a system that ensures the most efficient use of water and land. Produmar currently has 930 Hectares (2,298 acres) under this type of system and plan to expand to 1000 Hectares by the end of this year.
