IBSS 2010 in Review
Once again Tropical caught the interest of many attendees at the 2010 International Boston Seafood Show last week. Apart from their eye-catching displays, Tropical presented their expanding product line: frozen shrimp and "Encrusted Coconut and Encrusted Parmesan Tilapia" were the newest products presented to the trade.

At the show, Tropical introduced a new tagline, "Tropical...your segue to sustainable aquaculture".Tropical is the largest distributor of fresh, sustainably sourced tilapia in the America's.They have always sought to improve upon current practices and will continue to do so, constantly following the most sustainable path available. From old ways to more modern practices, Tropical continues to evolve as was apparent in their displays at IBSS 2010.

This year holds many more milestones to be achieved by Tropical as they pursue both GlobalGap certification and ISRTA when it becomes available.

Thank you....

We would like to give our thanks to Diversified for another terrific Seafood Show, to Araho for inviting us to their evening gala event and to Ipswich Shellfish for inviting us to celebrate their 75th  anniversary with them.

Thank you to Segway of Boston for helping us incorporate a Segway in our booth and thank you to 24DP and Beatriz for all the time that went in to filming and editing our first video that debuted at the show.

Tropical Aquaculture Europe at Fish International

Bremen, Germany.  Tropical Aquaculture Europe (TAE) participated in Fish International in February of this year.   This was the first year that TAE had a booth at this trade show and although attendance was down (9,300 attendees) it was a successful event.   "As a trade fair we represent the industry's marketplace and thus reflect the current economic situation.  So it was all the more pleasing that all the key buyers were present," said Managing Director Messe Bremen.  Laurent Metivier, Tropical Aquaculture Europe's manager was in attendance and said that he was able to meet with some key retailers at the show.

After another successful Boston Seafood Show, we returned to Vermont last week to unpack crates and put everything away until next year.  The 1923 Model-T snowmobile, however, was not put away for good.  If you find yourself in the Rutland, Vermont area you may catch a glimpse of it gliding along snow-covered streets, toting happy passengers around town.

Last Friday we said good-bye to E.J. as he heads to Colorado to start a new career.  E.J. was a part of the Tropical team for just over two years and he will be missed.  We hope he is successful in his next endeavor.

We are thrilled for Mike as he recently shared some exciting news with us:  he and his wife Chelsea are expecting their second child in October.

This month Karen, Beatriz and Ingrid celebrated birthdays.  After long hours and hard work by all in Boston, we have been well rewarded by many delicious birthday cakes!

Tropical History

In 1998 Produmar plant processed roughly 10-15,000lbs per week.  At that time, Tropical's request of 25,000lbs per week was a real stretch.  After 12 years of improvements at the plant level Produmar is now one of Tropical's largest Ecuadorian producers processing
up to 300,000lbs weekly.
