Pinwheels for Prevention
|
|
Prevent Child Abuse Florida and its Pinwheels for Prevention campaign is one of many ways our community can take an active role in preventing abuse and neglect before they happen. The campaign promotes healthy child development, positive parenting practices and community action.
We are asking providers to have your students plant a pinwheel garden in a visible location at your center or home for customers to see. It will serve as a discussion item so that the community can be reminded of the need for child abuse and neglect prevention. The directions on how to create the pinwheels as well as the flyer for you to post in your front window are below.
If you plan to plant a pinwheel garden please let us know so that we can take pictures and post online. If you have more questions, please contact Shannette Prince at sprince@elcoc.org or 407-259-2464.
Make your own pinwheel.

Keeping Babies Safe
Are your cribs compliant? |
|
|
As of December 28, 2012, all child care centers and family child care homes must meet new infant crib safety standards. You may have already received information from your DCF licensing representative on this new requirement, more information can be found here:
In the last nine years, there have been 32 deaths in the U.S. from crib-related issues, as well as multiple crib recalls because of safety concerns. The new standards are designed to keep some of these incidents from happening. Key elements in the changes include a ban on drop sides, requirements for stronger slats and mattress supports (no wood supports are allowed) and better labeling and instructions on cribs. When buying a crib you must make sure that it has a compliance certificate to ensure it meets the new standards.
The ELCOC will have two more compliant cribs as door prizes at the provider meeting on April 19!
