 Weird Words

Words With Friends

  

jape -- To joke or quip. 

 

Sure, at Venture Up we jape all the time.

  

haler -- Currency of Slovakia and the Czech Republic; 100 halers = 1 Korea.  

 

Common knowledge?

  

necked -- Having a neck of a specific kind, as in "long-necked". 

 

Not another version of "naked"?

  

trapt -- ?

 

Somehow the name of Los Gatos, CA band formed in 1997 is now immortalized in lower case, if you are playing Words With Friends.

   

oud -- A pear-shaped stringed instrument of Northern Africa.

 

hes -- Plural of "he".  

 

So, "shes" is the plural of "she" ?  Cool ! New word.

 

skite -- A Scottish term; to slip or slide. 

  

fet -- A "Field Effect Transistor" has become a household term in the form of its lower case acronym -- fet. 

 

So why doesn't spell check recognize it?

  

fice -- A nervous, belligerent little mongrel dog.   

 

Hmm, guess it's not always a chihuahua.

 

dite -- To prepare for action or use.

  

taw -- The 22nd and last letter in many Semitic Abjabs.

  

weet -- 14th century Middle English word meaning to know.

   

grith -- Protection or sanctuary provided by Old English law to persons in certain circumstances, as when in a church or traveling on the king's highway.

 

hist -- An exclamation used to attract attention or as a warning to be silent. 

 

All along we thought it was just a vowel-free sound mothers made at noisy children.

 

ut -- a syllable representing the C tone in music; the first note of the hexicord in mideivel music.

 

We knew that.
