It feels like 2007-2008 all over again. As many of you may recall, as soon as Barak H. Obama secured the Democratic nomination for President, it became very hard for gun shops to keep certain guns and ammo in stock. Manufacturers simply could not keep up with the demand from buyers fearing that their Second Amendment rights would be limited by executive fiat from a leftist president.
Well, it's happening again. But, this time it's worse because demand for personal protection firearms has grown dramaticlly over the past few years. And, we can only imagine what an unfettered second-term President Obama would do to curtail our God-given and Constitutionally codified right to keep and bear arms for self defense.
Some manufacturers, including Smith and Wesson and Ruger, are not even taking orders from wholesalers until they've worked through their backlog which, for some items, are in the thousands of units. High demand guns from other big manufacturers are simply impossible to secure from the major firearms distributors. Specifically, it's getting very hard to find AR15 rifles, 1911 pistols, J-frame revolvers, and some popular carry pistols. This situation is expected to last for at least another 6 months - some say two years.
Here is an excerpt from an email from an SAO customer clearly illustrating the current situation in the firearms market:
Dear SAO,
I am a civilian contractor presently working in the country of Qatar. I have a residence in Fernandina Beach and feel you guys would be the most trustworthy FFL around my home so I have a few questions I hope you could answer. What the heck happened to all the AR 15s??? I am searching online and every company I am looking at is sold out or cant predict when they will get in stripped lower receivers, uppers, complete rifles etc. etc.... Wait times on receivers are 1 to 2 months so of course now I am feeling like I have to buy an AR while I may still have a chance...
I just dont know what to do because like I said I am afraid I wont be able to purchase an AR at all by the time I get home. Do you guys have any way to get lowers, stripped or not?
[Yes, we have a few Spikes Tactical stripped lowers left and we have 10 more on order but it could be weeks before they are delivered....and they won't stay on the shelf for long.]
So, if you are looking to acquire a particular firearm, please get in touch with us so we can get it ordered or get you on a waiting list. We (Mark P., GM) have great relationships with all of the major wholesale distributors in the business and they often pull strings to get our customers what they need.
Ammo Price Hikes Coming
Word from our suppliers is that wholesale ammo prices of all calibers is going up by 20% or more on May 1st and for the foreseeable future. And, certain rounds like .223 and .38spec are already getting scarce. This is related to the supply and demand issues touched on in the story above. Unfortunately, SAO must pass the increase on to you, just like sales tax.
So, if you've been thinking about buying ammo in bulk, now is the time to do it. Ammo, like gold, will hold it's value and doesn't go bad.
If you're not a Gold Member yet and shoot more than twice a month, you should consider joining now. One of the benefits is a 20% discount on bulk ammo purchases of 500 rounds and 25% off purchases of 1000 rounds or more. That will help soften the blow of the upcoming price hikes.
