Complications Related to Spine Surgery

spine surgerySpinal surgery, although an effective treatment for some serious spinal conditions, is associated with some serious potential complications as reported by the University of Washington.  The cumulative incidences per body system is as follows:

1. Cardiac: 8.4%

2. Lung: 13%

3. GI: 3.9%

                                    4. Neurological: 7.35%

                                    5. Blood: 10.75%

                                    6. Urological: 9.18%

Total complication rate: 52.58%.

Clearly, these numbers are staggering and those who are considering spinal surgery have to keep in mind that these invasive procedures carry with them many risks for complications through out the body and not just the spine.  Chiropractic care has consistently shown to be the most highly effective treatment for spinal pain and our patients can often avoid surgery with one of our conservative care plans.
