Greetings!
 Rick Gersten
Welcome to the first issue of Rent Check, Urban Igloo's monthly newsletter.

Urban Igloo combines the power of the Internet with knowledgeable agents to offer local landlords an easy way to find renters, and renters an easy way to find a place to live.  We recently launched and are already shaking up the DC rental market, and picking up lots of buzz along the way.  Apartment owners are thrilled we're driving tenants to their door.  Condo landlords love that we handle everything from showing their units to running background checks.  And renters appreciate not having to look at lots of disappointing listings.

Next time you talk to someone looking for a renter or a rental, tell them to visit our website or call 877.IGLOODC (445.6632).

Each month, Rent Check will bring you cool news about Urban Igloo, fresh insights into DC area neighborhoods, and useful tips for renters, landlords, and homeowners.  Enjoy the first issue!

Urban Igloo Buzz Urban Igloo Print Ad
Last month, Urban Igloo announced its official launch and our story was picked up by national sources like Yahoo! News, major DC publications like the Washington Business Journal, and neighborhood papers like the Northwest Current.  Last week, NewsChannel 8 interviewed Rick on its "Washington Business Tonight" segment.  And this week, NBC Washington asked viewers "Will New Site Beat Craigslist as Preferred Apartment Locator?".

We have also been attracting lots of buzz from our kickoff ad campaigns.  If you've been on the streets of downtown DC during the last few weeks, you've probably seen our name and friendly penguin on mobile billboards circulating the city.  And keep an eye out for our fun ads in the Washington City Paper, Northwest Current, and other local DC papers.
Cleveland Park's Uptown TheaterNeighborhood Spotlight: Cleveland Park
Northwest DC's Cleveland Park has long been a popular spot for renters - with a number of apartment buildings along its stretch of Connecticut Avenue and surrounding streets.  Thinking about living there?  Here's what local renters like:
  • Great Restaurants ... including some critically acclaimed options like Palena and Indique along with lower-priced options like Vace
  • Everything You Need ... an easy-to-walk strip along Connecticut Ave has restaurants, bars, grocery stores, retail stores, a movie theater, post office, and red line metro stop.
  • The Balance ... plenty of dining and shopping, yet quieter and greener than neighborhoods near downtown.  And easy access to the hipper scenes of U Street, Dupont, Adams Morgan, Mt. Pleasant, and Columbia Heights
  • Rock Creek Park ... easy access to the park, including a trail right off of Connecticut Ave. and Rodman St.
  • The Zoo ... in between Cleveland Park and Woodley Park
  • The Uptown ... one of DC's oldest movie theaters and biggest screens
Tip of the Month: Put Your Best Foot Forward
Trying to rent out your place?  Here are some basic steps to ensure a good first impression:
  • Remove as much clutter as possible ... from counters, shelves, walls, and even closets
  • Have your carpets professionally cleaned
  • Make your wood floors as clean as possible
  • Keep wall colors neutral
  • Tidy up landscaping
  • Make everything immaculate ... from the driveway to the basement to the bedroom
