The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) turned 15 in September and Debby Tucker was on
hand to celebrate with Vice President Joe Biden and Sue Else, President, National Network to End Domestic
Violence. Vice President Biden was the author of VAWA in
1994. Debby was the founding
Chair of the National Network to End Domestic Violence and coordinated with
then-Senator Biden and many organizations to suggest the content of the original
legislation. |
The National Center is a proud supporter of this important campaign to end violence against women. We hope you'll consider "saying no"!

Concert Benefits Library; You Can Too!.................................................In
October a benefit concert was held to raise funds to place the National
Center's library into The University of Texas library system. We appreciate everyone involved in making it a success! The National Center's library is a vast collection of items on a myriad of issues related to violence against women. As part of this effort, the National Center is establishing the Pat Cole and Nancy Flanakin National Center on Domestic
and Sexual Violence Archive at the Wom en's Archive at the University of Houston for all historical materials. The concert was organized by Duggan Flanakin,
Nancy's husband, and several local bands donated their time to play. The
National Center is partnering with the Schools of Law and Social Work of The
University of Texas at Austin and the
Institute on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. There's still time for you to act!
Several people who knew
these great women or support the project have made contributions. You
can too, by visiting the National Center's website. We appreciate your generous contribution!

National
Center Commemorates 11 Years of Service
In October 1998, Debby Tucker, MPA, and Sarah M. Buel, JD,
co-founded the National Training Center on Domestic
and Sexual Violence, renamed in 2003, the National Center on Domestic and Sexual Violence. Rhonda Gerson, Toby Myers and S. Gail Parr were co-founding board members (mee t the entire Board of Directors). These long time advocates began with an ambitious
vision of an organization that
encouraged and created unprecedented levels of collaboration among professionals
working to end violence against women. During the 11 ensuing years,
the National Center has not wavered from this vision, partnering with law
enforcement, the military, prosecutors, judges, advocates, other caring
professionals, universities, research institutions, state coalitions, national
organizations, government agencies and international groups. We accomplish our
goals through training, consulting and advocacy. In the past few months we have
worked closely with the following: Training Colorado
