"We had very little 15 years ago when we secured passage of VAWA, so we can get through this challenging time.  Please, everyone hang onto to your energy, commitment and dedication until we change the attitudes, beliefs and behaviors of individuals who use violence.  We will succeed if we work together!"

Greetings!

Greetings! We want to share with you some of the developments and activities at the National Center in this busy time of Fall.

Commemorating VAWA's 15th Anniversary

On this, the 15th Anniversary of the passage of the Violence Against Women Act, I urge us to recall the underlying philosophy we used at the National Network to End Domestic Violence in cooperation with Legal Momentum and many others to write the bill with Vice President (then Senator) Joe Biden.
October 10 Benefit Concert to Ensure Access to a Comprehensive Domestic and Sexual Violence Library Collection

Join us October 10th (4:00-9:00 pm CT) in Austin, TX, for a benefit concert to raise funds to commemorate the work of two amazing women and their monumental efforts to build an exemplary collection of materials on domestic and sexual violence.

Nancy Flanakin built the collection from the ground up while she was the FlanakinLibrarian for the National Center.  From 2005 until her death in 2007, Nancy continued to build the library as the Librarian for The University of Texas School of Social Work.  Dr. Patricia Cole, who served as the Associate Director of the National Center until her death in 2001, assisted Nancy to get this colegoing and provided guidance for the library.  On its 10th Anniversary in October 2008, the National Center donated the collection to The University of Texas in cooperation with the Schools of Law and Social Work.      [More...]
