"Reduce the Emissions and Grow the Economy at the Same Time, Environmental and Economic Sustainability - Bringing the Swedish Model to Ohio"

According to the Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt: Since 1993 Sweden's economy has grown over 40% and at the same time the carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced by at least 10%.

Last year, Andrew Walleck, a management consultant in technical and marketing areas, received a scholarship through the Swedish-American Exchange Fund to go to Sweden and meet with government and industry to study how Sweden has been able to become a world front runner in developing and adopting energy, environmental, and economic sustainability programs. Saturday, April 17, 5pm: Sweden ABBA Evening in Columbus 

T
he Scandinavian Club of Columbus will be honoring Sweden and the contributions of ABBA as they are inducted into the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame this year.  (Artists are eligible for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twenty-five years after their first recording is released.  The ceremony will take place on March 15, 2010 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.)  Besides dinner, the Club will have a retrospective presentation of ABBA's career and music through narration and music videos.  Guests are invited to come in groovy 70's garb.  See the Club's website for more details: www.scandiclub.com.

Saturday & Sunday, April 24-25: Ashville Viking Festival 

The 7th Annual Ashville Viking Festival will take place in Ashville, OH (just ˝ hour south of Columbus).  Presenting a living history event that reenacts a Viking All-Thing from a thousand years ago. Featuring a 40 ft. replica Viking Longship. There will be a variety of entertainment, including music, dance, and swordplay. Also on hand: crafts demonstrations, period merchandise to buy, a variety of food, and a children's area with crafts and storytellers.

The Geely Holding Group one step further to buy Volvo Cars from Ford
 
The Chinese Zhejiang Geely Holding Group is one step further to become the new owner of Volvo Cars. Geely has secured the financing of the purchase amount of 15 Billion Swedish Kronor - around 2 Billion US Dollars
 
Swedish Car Market back on track
 
Bil Sweden (www.bilsweden.se), the organization of manufacturers, and importers of cars, trucks, and busses, has increased the forecast for 2010 to 225,000 retail sales of new cars - up 20,000 from last year. This volume is the normal level over a ten year period so they claim that business is back to normal again. "Sweden is always first out at a downturn but first back up again!" says the Bil Sweden President Bertil Moldén.
 
New Wind Power Companies add fresh air to the Swedish Stock Market
 
Recently two new wind power companies announced plans to go public.
O2 Vind (www.o2.se) has applied for an initial public offering (IPO) on the Nasdaq OMX exchange in Stockholm, aiming to raise SKr950m-SKr1.2bn ($133m-$168m). The listing is aimed at helping the company to achieve a target of developing 1-gigawatt (GW) of wind power by 2015.
 
Arise Windpower (www.arisewindpower.se), an integrated wind power company with a high-quality project portfolio in southern Sweden, has applied for a listing of its shares on NASDAQ OMX Stockholm, main list, and will concurrently raise new capital and broaden the ownership of the company through an offer to acquire shares corresponding to up to MSEK 687.
 
Sweden's Government  in Black
 
According to a recent report, the Swedish Government showed a profit of 29 Billions SEK (4 Billion USD) in 2009 despite the overall troubled economic situation - but the balance still shows a deficit of 176 Billion SEK (25 Billion USD). One reason for the positive result was the lower interest on the deficit.
