  • Receive class recipe packet
  • Savor the event's food and beverages
  • Interact behind-the-scenes with our talented chef-instructors and staff
  • Learn new cooking tips and techniques
  • Earn credits that can be used to take free classes
  • 10% discount on Pies & Plates retail merchandise the day of class
  • Have fun!

Becoming an assistant is easy. There are three requirements:

  • Attend at least one Pies & Plates cooking class to learn how our classes operate and to observe our assistants in action.
  • Attend our Knife Skills class
  • Attending a free orientation session in which assistant responsibilities and procedures will be explained.

Class Assistant obligations include:

  • Assistants arrive an hour before class and assist the instructor with food prep and the set up of the classroom.
  • They help greet students and sign them in as they enter and make them comfortable while they settle in.
  • During the class, Assistants help the instructor conduct the class by assisting in preparing food, plating and serving, pouring beverages, washing dishes and tidying the classroom.
  • After class, Assistants help the instructor to breakdown the kitchen and clean up, including washing dishes, mopping floor, etc.
  • The Assistant may also be asked to assist with retail sales and class registrations.
  • Taking part in this program is a fun and rewarding way to attend our school without cost to you. For every 5 classes you assist, you will receive credit towards taking the class of your choice up to a $55 value and subject to availability.

  • Assistants must have their hair pulled back or wear a hair net or hat and wear comfortable, close-toed shoes and nice, casual clothing.  No sleeveless shirts.  Jeans discouraged.  We will provide aprons.
  • Provide at least 5 days notice if you are unable to assist at a class
  • Have fun

Our goal is to have enough Class Assistants (plus the chef-instructor and a Pies & Plates manager) at each class so everyone enjoys the class and the tasks go easily and quickly for all.  For most of our classes, only one assistant is needed.  However, the number of assistants varies depending on the class.  Assistants will be given the opportunity to select the classes they wish to work.  If several assistants wish to work the same class, we will select the assistant(s) that we think will best meet our needs. It is critical for class assistants to attend the classes they commit to--we are counting on you.
