Carol Dweck divides people into two categories in her terrific book "Mindset" (subtitle: The New Psychology of Success).  People with the growth mindset will study more, work harder and ask questions while people with the fixed mindset will more easily give up.  Dr. Dweck's ideas can be applied to teaching, parenting and coaching and is an easy and enjoyable read.  Here's a link to her site: Mindset for Parents, Teachers and Coaches
