VOCATION -
What Does it Mean to You and What Part Does it Play in
Your Job Search?
With Guest Facilitator, Pastor Tim Delkeskamp
IDENTIFYING YOUR VOCATION AND HOW THAT CAN LEAD TO CAREER FULFILLMENT AND FINDING A JOB
A wise person once said that the glory of God is a human being fully alive - someone who is at peace, joyful, and fulfilled in what they do. Is this you or is it someone you'd like to become? This discussion and dialogue led by guest facilitator, Pastor Tim Delkeskamp, explores the concept of "vocation." This meeting is not just for Christians or those who have a religious affiliation. Even if you are "Biblically-challenged", you are most certainly welcome and encouraged to attend.
Here are some questions to think about before the meeting:
- If you won $1 million, how would that effect your job search?
- Would you stop looking completely or would it change the focus or direction
of your search?
- What is the job you've enjoyed the most in your career thus far
- What are you really passionate about?

Job-seekers - need a good laugh?!

Here is the "real" meaning behind some common job posting jargon:
FLEXIBLE HOURS:
Work 55 hours; get paid for 37.5.
GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Management communicates, you listen, figure out what they want you to do.
ABILITY TO HANDLE A HEAVY WORKLOAD: You whine, you're fired.
CAREER-MINDED:
We expect that you will want to flip hamburgers until you are 70.
SELF-MOTIVATED:
Management won't answer questions
SOME OVERTIME REQUIRED:
Some time each night and some time each weekend
DUTIES WILL VARY:
Anyone in the office can boss you around.
COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT:
We have a lot of turnover. |
