Test your Cookie Cart I.Q.

Cookie Cart is conducting a brief survey to learn how the organization is understood in the community.  The results will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of its brand and marketing initiatives.  The survey is in quiz form and will take less than 2 minutes to complete.

By completing the survey, you're helping Cookie Cart as it grows to serve more teens each year.  You will be entered to win a Cookie Cart Cookie Jar filled with 2 dozen cookies.

Thank you!

Transition Plus

Former Youth now working at MPLS Public Schools HQ

During the 2011-12 school year, Cookie Cart worked with young people from Transition Plus, a school to work program for teens.  They worked primarily during school hours and were supervised not only by Cookie Cart bakery staff, but by a Transition Plus job coach as well.  For these students, this is their first paid job experience, and in addition to being trained in a commercial kitchen, they  learned mastery of basic skills, vital to strong youth development.

This fall, two of those students were hired by Minneapolis Public Schools through an internship program to work in the Northgate Cafe in their new building on West Broadway.  Their work experience at Cookie Cart enhanced their resume and was appealing to this new employer.

Congratulations to Amy and Danielle on their new jobs!

Thank You Jimmy

A junior at the University of St. Thomas, Jimmy Jara isn't sure what career he will pursue after college, but he knows he wants to make a difference and contribute to the community. Majoring in Entrepreneurship and minoring in Catholic studies, Jimmy was looking for a summer internship through the University of St. Thomas. He has an interest in working with youth, so when he saw the Accounting Internship at Cookie Cart posted on the school career board, he applied.

A graduate of DeLaSalle High School with family in North Minneapolis, Cookie Cart is a familiar place to Jimmy. Like many young people starting out in the workforce, he was intimidated to begin his internship, but now he really feels at home here, noting a kind and supportive energy among the staff. Jimmy took on a big accounting project, with the help of Cookie Cart staff, and he learned just how much accounting is involved in running even a small organization. Jimmy was especially impressed with how outgoing the youth employees at Cookie Cart are and how they develop a "Cookie Cart personality".

All of us at Cookie Cart want to wish Jimmy the best of luck as he pursues his dreams!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies

Everyone loves chocolate, but at Cookie Cart, we knew we could take our average Chocolate Chocolate Chip cookie to the next level.  Using basic R&D techniques, our bakery staff developed a richer, brownie-like cookie covered in crystallized sugar.  The big change?  We used a richer cocoa, rolled the dough in sugar and experimented with how the cookies are baked.

We keep coming up with new ideas, so look for more new cookies from Cookie Cart!

Good Bye Katie

Many of you know Katie Fitzpatrick, who has been our Sales and Marketing Director for the past four years. Some of you also know that Katie is a new mom. After much soul searching, she decided to resign her position to become a full time parent. Her last day was September 19.

Katie has a natural ability to bring out the best in youth employees and help them envision bright futures. She gets teary eyed when she reflects, "I have been exposed to hundreds of young people who have nothing but amazing things ahead of them."

Katie's contributions to Cookie Cart have been numerous.  She developed and introduced our signature Customer Service Training program, and she has taught the curriculum to over 150 youth employees.  As a direct result of her marketing initiatives, cookie sales increased by over $30,000.

Katie will miss Cookie Cart's customers. Recently she said, "It always amazes me how strong of a connection you can have with only a voice on the phone. I am sincerely grateful for the people I have gotten to know."

Meggie McCauley has assumed Katie's sales and marketing duties. She can be reached at [email protected] or (612)521-0855 x.112. If you have not yet had the opportunity to meet Meggie, you are in for a treat.  She is a true delight.

Thank you Katie for all you have done for Cookie Cart and the young people it serves.

Thanks for your ongoing support for Cookie Cart.

We couldn't do it without you!

Sincerely,

Matt, Ann, Amanda, Meggie, Taronda, Leah, Anna and Marit and Cookie Cart youth employees
