Meet April's Rising Stars Beth & Mercy

Cookie Cart chooses two youth employees each month as our Rising Stars.  Our program staff  look for a positive attitude, mindfulness of adult staff and youth peers, strong attendance to scheduled shifts, and demonstration of initiative and willingness to help others.

Rounding Up
Cookie Cart would like to thank the Hall Institute, Inc. as a feature customer.

The Hall Institute consistently orders cookies to send to their clients as thank you gifts, but on top of that, they round up their invoices to include a contribution to Cookie Cart's programs!  This way, they are doubling their impact and supporting a local organization that teaches valuable work skills and makes great Cookies.  Thank You!

Spring Break 2012

For Cookie Cart youth employees, Spring Break is one of the busiest times of year!  Not only is each day jam packed with cookie production in the bakery, but youth are going out into the community for sales events, where they practice valuable interpersonal and customer service skills.
Stop by the following events to purchase our delicious, fresh-baked cookies and then take a few moments to meet our talented staff.

In addition,  a group of 10 youth employees and 2 adult staff visited WSB & Associates, a consulting firm that provides services in the civil engineering, planning, environmental, and construction fields, to explore new career opportunities and network with professionals.  Cookie Cart teens were hosted in the board room of the Minneapolis office and had the opportunity to meet with staff from areas of Environmental planning, Business Graphics, Surveying, and Human Resources.  They learned about day to day roles as well as the individual paths employees took to achieve their educational goals and find their current position.  Thanks to Audrey Nehn for helping facilitate this visit!

Cookie Cart staff and youth employees

Twelve Cookie Cart teens will be in the classroom, preparing for the first round of National Career Readiness Certificate exams.  This program was piloted last year and 25 youth employees were certified.  This year, we aim to double that number and certify 50 teens with the help of the MN Workforce Center and volunteers from Rotoract.

Your support of Cookie Cart's programs make this valuable, experience-based, on-the-job training possible.  We are always looking for new opportunities to introduce careers, workplaces and skills to our youth employees.  Contact Meggie  at mmccauley@cookiecart.org if you're interested in helping out.  Thank you!

Special Thanks to Cargill
Cookie Cart is able to keep the price of our delicious cookies low with the help and support of our in-kind partners.  This spring, we want to thank the Dressing, Sauces and Oils division of Cargill.  We recently received an entire pallet of shortening from one of Cargill's brands, Master Chef.  It was a perfect fit for our current cookie's ingredient and nutritional profile. Not only did they donate the shortening, but they arranged to have it delivered too.  We're able to put the money saved directly into our youth employment training programs.  Thank you Cargill!

Welcome Meggie

Meggie McCauley joined Cookie Cart's team of adult staff last holiday season as the Sales & Marketing Assistant and recently transitioned to become the Community Relations Coordinator.  In her new role she will be working with volunteers, coordinating events as well as working closely with the bakery to develop new products.  She recently graduated from the University of St Thomas with a degree in Food & Nutrition in Business and is looking forward to utilizing both fields of her major.  In her free time, Meggie enjoys anything that involves food and fashion!

Her favorite cookies are the decorated sugar cookies!

Thanks for your ongoing support for Cookie Cart.

We couldn't do it without you!

Sincerely,

Matt, Ann, Katie, Meggie, Taronda, Leah, Anna and Marit and Cookie Cart youth employees
