Volunteer at Cookie Cart

The holiday season is upon us and Cookie Cart would love volunteers during our busiest time of the year. You can work directly alongside the 14-17 year-olds who operate the bakery by decorating Christmas cookies. It's a great chance to celebrate the winter season. Opportunities available for 2-10 hours/week, Monday-Friday from 9:00 am - 7:00 pm. Email Leah Jasper if you're interested at ljasper@cookiecart.org.

Congratulations NCRC Recipients

We are proud to share the results from the National Career Readiness Certification exams which took place this past Saturday at Cookie Cart. A total of 9 youth employees took the exam and a total of 8 passed the exam. Kaela, Quincy, Trini, George, and Kiarra all earned a score of Silver, and De'Andrea, Cariah, Ying earned Bronze.

A total of 24 youth employees have earned their NCRC this year and we will most certainly reach our goal of 25 certifications in 2011.

On November 17th, the Minnesota National Guard helped Cookie Cart youth employees delivered 60 dozen free cookies to our North Minneapolis community. Arriving in 3 Humvee's, service men and women escorted 10 teens to

It was our way of thanking community members for the support they show Cookie Cart employees throughout the year.  This was a unique experience for Cookie Cart teens to talk with members of the National Guard about their roles, ride along in a military vehicle and give back to the community that has supported them for so long.

A special thanks to the National Guard members who participated that day!

Best Buy Volunteers Visit Cookie Cart

On October 20th, an outstanding group of Best Buy volunteers visited Cookie Cart's bakery to work alongside the teens scooping cookie dough and helping them practice real-life customer service scenarios. After a morning of hard work, Best Buy employees sat down with Cookie Cart teens for lunch at the bakery.  Thanks to Best Buy and their volunteer team for the great day.

Cookie Cart Youth Visit LEO A DALY

On November 4th, 10 youth employees visited Leo A Daly, an architecture firm located in downtown Minneapolis.  Engineers, designers and architects took time out of their day to have a discussion with Cookie Cart teens about the educational and career paths that led them to their current jobs.  Youth employees asked questions about interest and schooling, and what it takes to work at a firm like Leo A Daly.  Thanks to John Albers and our hosts at Leo A Daly.  We look forward to visiting again!

Cookie Cart's 2011 Chefs' Dinner was a huge success!  If you were able to attend this year, THANK YOU!  Thanks for being a part of a wonderful evening filled with outstanding food, silent auction shopping and great friends.

Cookie Cart was proud to present the second Sister Jean Thuerauf Community Service Award to RBC Wealth Management, for making a significant difference in Cookie Cart's ability to:
  • Teach young people the skills and behaviors needed to be successful in the workplace;
  • Provide opportunities for youth employees to practice their newly-acquired skills; and
  • Expand youth employees' world of possibilities by making introductions to business people and corporations in our community.

A special thanks to our host, Sue Zelickson, businesses who donated to the success of the silent auction, the Arts Institute International and their chefs, especially Pat Weber, and finally our sponsors for the evening: RBC Wealth Management, Best Buy, Bremer Bank, General Mills, Merwin Liquors and Prudential Financial.
