Volunteer at Cookie Cart

Whether you have an obligation to do community service or complete volunteer hours for work or school, or you just have some free time on your hands, Cookie Cart is the place for an awesome volunteer experience! You can work directly alongside the 14-17 year-olds who operate the bakery, helping to scoop dough, pack cookies or wash dishes. Even if you don't want to work with teens, we have opportunities for you. It's a great chance to learn more about Cookie Cart, experience a commercial bakery, or just meet some new people. Opportunities available for 2-10 hours/week, Monday-Friday from 9:00 am - 7:00 pm. Email Leah Jasper if you're interested at ljasper@cookiecart.org.

2011 Chefs' Dinner
2011 Chefs' Dinner graphic

If you attended Cookie Cart's Annual Chefs' Dinner last year, you know this is an event not to be missed!  Local chefs' from the Arts Institute International, along with Chef Pat Weber, work together to create a brilliant, fall-inspired menu, served as a five-course dinner and wine-paring. Hors D'ouevres are served during the silent auction, which contains a variety of items from local vendors including dining, spa and relaxation, entertainment and sports.

This is a chance to hear from current and former youth employees of Cookie Cart on their experience in the youth employment training program. In addition, Cookie Cart is proud to be presenting the second Sister Jean Thuerauf Community Service Award to one of our partner organizations.

November 13th, 2011 - 5:30 pm

Art Institutes International

For more information on tickets, silent auction donations and sponsorship, please contact Anna Bregier, (612) 521.0855 x106, abregier@cookiecart.org. Seating is limited so reserve your tickets today!

Meet Sua Yang - October's Rising Star

Sua Yang

Cookie Cart's adult bakery staff have chosen Sua Yang as October's "Rising Star" of the month!  While Sua has only been a youth employee at Cookie Cart for 6 months, he has gone from being "just a rookie" to being a responsible team member who is always on time and working hard.   Program Director, Ms. Richardson, has seen Sua become more comfortable around his peers and asking more questions at work. He is currently participating in Cookie Cart's 360 Degree Program.

Make an Impact

So far this year, Cookie Cart has been able to give 83 youth from North Minneapolis their first paid-job experience.  This is an important opportunity to experience successful employment during a time where unemployment rates among youth are higher than they have ever been.  In addition, teenagers like Sua Yang, this month's Rising Star, are building resumes, learning responsibility and gaining confidence by participating in Cookie Cart's classroom programs. You can help us reach our goal of employing 120 youth this year by making a donation of $25 today. Remember, all donations to the Cookie Cart are tax deductable.

Give a Gift with Meaning
HolidayThis year, consider Cookie Cart cookies and muffins for your holiday gifts.  When you give Cookie Cart products, you are not only showing your friends, family, and clients that you care about them, but that you also care about the community.  To browse gift and packaging options, click here.

Are You R.E.A.D.Y. to Work at Cookie Cart?

Cookie Cart is gearing up for the busy holiday season.  In order to make enough cookies and continue to offer experiential employment training, we will be hiring 25+ new teens to work in the bakery.  Essie at workIn fact, over the next two weeks, we'll be conducting interviews with teens every day. We always have more applicants than we do positions, so we want to make sure job seekers are R.E.A.D.Y. - Responsible, Energetic, maintain Academic Achievement, Dedicated and have a "Yes" attitude.

The need for Cookie Cart's employment training program has grown over the years. Nearly all teens who apply for a job have no previous work experience, making it difficult to get a job. Cookie Cart offers a first paid-job experience along with job skills including advanced work-readiness preparation and customer service training. Interested applicants, ages  14-16, should visit the Cookie Cart bakery in person to request a job application - Monday-Friday between 3pm-6pm.
