Credit Cards Accepted at City Hall
City of Tuscola - Water & Sewer Department

The City of Tuscola is now accepting Discover, MasterCard and American Express for water payments. They do not accept Visa at this time.

If you choose to pay with a card, you will be charged a 2.1% service fee and you must present a photo ID at time of payment.

Volunteer Opportunities
Douglas County Museum

If you are looking for volunteer opportunities, the Douglas County Museum needs you!

They will be hosting informational meetings on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 13, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. for anyone interested in volunteering at the Museum.

The meetings will include a tour of the facility and descriptions of the types of volunteer opportunities available. No experience necessary.

Pink Style Campaign
Tanger Outlet Center

Tanger Outlets has started their Pink Style Campaign! Buy a Pink Card (available at the Visitor Center) for $1 and receive 25% off a single item at participating stores.

All proceeds from the campaign benefit breast cancer research.

Rotary Food Drive for SAM Pantry
Saturday, October 6th

The Tuscola Rotary Club is hosting their Annual Food Drive on Saturday, October 6th to benefit the SAM Food Pantry.

All Tuscola residents can give to the SAM Food Pantry by leaving non-perishable food or money (cash & checks made payable to SAM Food Pantry accepted) at their doors. Pickup begins at 10 am.

Pre-packaged bags of items are also available at Tuscola IGA in varying dollar amounts.

Volunteers will check every front door in Tuscola.

2012 Rotary Food Drive
 
Poochapalooza
Saturday, October 6th

This pet-friendly fundraising event will take place on Saturday, October 6th from 10 am to 4 pm at Tanger Outlet Center. The purpose of the event is to raise money for a dog park in Tuscola.

Activities include: contests, balloon animals, 50/50 raffle, musical entertainment, an adopt-a-thon, and a doggy-owner spa day (doggy & owner get new "dos" and photo taken together).

Ronald McDonald Toy Run
Sunday, October 7th

Gold Wing Road Riders is sponsoring its annual Ronald McDonald Toy Run on Sunday, October 7th at 9 a.m. at Tuscola McDonald's. The event takes place rain or shine, and all bikes are welcome.

All proceeds go to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois.

Wednesday, October 10th

Douglas County Rotaract is teaming up with Community Blood Service of Illinois to host a Community Blood Drive on Wednesday, October 10th from 10:30 am to 6 pm at Tuscola High School (study hall room).

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser
Douglas County Rotaract & Tuscola Rotary

Douglas County Rotaract is teaming up with the Tuscola Rotary Club and Arcola Rotary Club for their annual Krispy Kreme Fundraiser! All proceeds benefit the Jamaican Dental Mission & Literacy Project as well as on-going Rotary and Rotaract projects in our area.

Doughnuts are $6/dozen and orders must be placed by Thursday, October 11th at 5 pm. The doughnuts can be picked up on the morning on Friday, October 19th from 8 am to 9:30 am at Dr. Rick Davidson's storage building (east of his dental office on Barker Street).

Wayne Scott Tribute
Sunday, October 14th

Mark your calendars for the Musical Tribute to Wayne Scott on Sunday, October 14th from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Museum!

In continuing to showcase local talent, Scott's family and friends will be playing the instruments built by him, currently on display at the Music, Music, Music exhibit. Anyone and everyone who has played with or listened to Scott, or are fans of good live music, please come for this live "showcase" of local musical talent.

Admission is free. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase. 
Trick-or-Treat Hours
City of Tuscola

Trick-or-Treat hours for the City of Tuscola have been set for Wednesday, October 31st from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Fall Leaf Collection
City of Tuscola

The City of Tuscola will begin fall leaf collection on Monday, October 15, 2012.

Please observe the following schedule and rules:

Monday - Ward I (East of Niles, North of Tracks)  
Tuesday - Ward 2 (West of Niles, North of Tracks)  
Wednesday - Ward 3 (East of Niles, South of Tracks)  
Thursday - Ward 4 (West of Niles, South of Tracks)  
Friday - Weather Make-up Day and Miscellaneous Collection  

- Simply rake your leaves to the curb or the edge of the pavement - we can only reach a few feet from the truck.
- No sticks, twigs, debris, or other landscape waste, please.
- We will not vacuum partially burned piles of leaves.
- We will attempt to service our designated coverage area on the date indicated. However, volume of leaves and weather may interfere.

Please be patient - we will serve all areas. Questions? Contact City Hall at 217-253-2112.

Remember: Leaf Burning is not allowed anytime within the City of Tuscola.
Tuscola History Lesson

Ficklin Street is named after Orland B. Ficklin. He was a large landowner in Douglas & Cole Counties and one of the first settlers in Tuscola. The town of Ficklin was also named after him. He was a member of the U.S. Congress several years before the Civil War.
